Position: Optical Network Mgmt Support Student

Location: Hybrid (3 Days in Office)

The team you will be a part of

The Network Infrastructure Optics NMS Technical Support team provides front-line support for NOKIA’s Fiber Transmission Network Management platform serving telecom carriers and MSO high-speed transport infrastructure.

Working directly with customers in addition to investigative work behind the scenes using NOKIA’s labs and available operational and functional knowledge base.

Education Recommendations

Currently a candidate for a Bachelor’s degree or Diploma in Computer Science, Computer Systems Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field with an accredited school in Canada.

HOW YOU WILL CONTRIBUTE AND WHAT YOU WILL LEARN

As part of the team, you will:

  • Contribute to server and virtual machine deployments.
  • Testbed design and setup using a combination of simulators and real equipment.
  • Prepare demos and proof of concept configurations.
  • Gain exposure to end-to-end optical networking architectures.
  • Learn how networks are managed in terms of operations, administration, maintenance, and provisioning.

KEY SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Knowledge of Server Hardware, HP Unix, and Red Hat Linux
  • Knowledge of Virtual Machines
  • Good communication skills and a desire to learn

It would be nice if you also had:

  • General knowledge of scripting languages like Python, Bash/Shell, etc.
  • General knowledge of Optical and IP networking
  • Ability to test, diagnose, and troubleshoot technical issues
