Telecommunications Design Lead

Position: Design Lead – Edmonton

Legacy Designtech Inc. is one of the leaders in providing design and engineering services to major telecommunications service providers. We are currently looking for a Design Lead to lead our growing team in Calgary. This individual will be responsible for delivery results of projects including budgets and schedules. Recruit and lead the team to accomplish company goals and objectives and to deliver a positive customer experience. Interfaces and works in partnership with other internal departments to achieve successful results.

Essential Job Functions:

• Actively and consistently support all efforts to simplify and enhance the customer experience.
• Manage the design activities with accountability, focused on company goals and the customer experience.
• Prioritize defined projects and other workload to deliver accurate and timely network design.
• Oversee the day-to-day business activity, ensuring design allocations and commitments are maintained and tracked for measurable performance metrics.
• Instill proper workplace values within the team (e.g., accountability, honesty, quality, respect, positivity).
• Develop technical and leadership bench strength within the Design team.
• Responsible for coordinating and ensuring proper technical training is identified and administered.
• Ensure designer solutions adhere to company published standards maintaining operationally efficient, low capital cost, and high-quality solutions.
• Cultivate teamwork and mentorship, internal and external to the Design team, to encourage solution sharing and knowledge transfer
• Hire, train, and develop team members
• Oversee project completion, managing budgets and margins
• Other duties as required

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or equivalent training and experience
• Strong leadership skills and demonstrated ability to effectively manage complex and lengthy assignments involving diverse employee base in an organization of comparable size and scope
• Ability to influence people with purpose, direction and motivation to accomplish goals
• Ability to work in fast paced environment handling multiple responsibilities while successfully meeting goals and deadlines within budget
• Ability to successfully manage and direct financial budget to achieve business goals
• Ability to maintain and develop individual contributors within the team
• Strong knowledge of OSP design is a must
• Strong knowledge of electrical distribution design is a must
• Familiarity and experience with telecommunications and electrical standards including Canadian Electrical Code and Alberta Electrical Code.
• Proficient in AutoCAD, Microstation, Bluebeam and MS programs required.
• Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
• Class 5 Driver’s License and must have a clean driving records
• Selected Candidate is required to obtain criminal background check and police clearance and driver’s abstract.
