Job Description
Summary: The OSP Fibre Design Project Manager position will perform a variety of technical, design, Project Manage and GIS/CAD duties related to the design of outside plant (OSP) telecommunications projects. Duties include but are not limited to the management of design/layout of fibre, preparation of engineering drawings, interaction with customers/developers and field audits. The role requires a highly motivated leader who possess the ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a large cross-functional team.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Oversee design fibre distribution for FTTH network deployment
- Designs and drafts new plant extension, rebuild and as-built plans
- Responsible for design duct arrangement, duct occupancy, and duct alignment as per customer specifications
- Manage the design and engineering process by planning and preparing drawings for construction of new, and removal or rearrangement of existing fibre optic and/or CATV, and conduits
- Able to read and understand highway/road prints, be able to identify conflicts with existing outside plant facilities, select routing of lines and equipment required for work projects
- Design FTTH/FTTB for MDU and/or SFU-Work closely with the Engineering and Construction Teams to design projects to provide complete Fibre Networks solutions
- Use GIS/CAD software and equipment to prepare and revise technical drawings using company established standard procedures
- Implement quality control standards and make necessary drawing updates as required
- Attend customer facing meeting to provide project updates
- Collaborate and communicate effectively with Project Team members on items related to scope, schedule, budget, and quality
- Communicate effectively and professionally with team members, management and customers or local municipal representatives
- Complete assigned projects on time and on budget
- Hire, train, cultivate and grow internal team members
- Other duties are required
Qualifications: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
- Post-secondary diploma in Electrical, Civil, Architectural Technology, another relevant field, or equivalent work experience
- Advance knowledge, skills and working experience with Autodesk AutoCAD is an asset
- Intermediate Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) proficiency
- Knowledge of CSA standards, including but not limited to CSA 22.3
- Excellent written and verbal English communication skills
- Excellent interpersonal skills and proven ability to work and collaborate in a team environment
- Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment
- Highly motivated self-starter with an attention to detail is a must
- Knowledge of Municipal Consent Requirements (MCR) is considered an asset
- Experience with customer specific applications such as NetX and SpatialNet an asset
- Experience with GIS software and tools such as QGIS, ArcGIS, 3-GIS an asset
- Knowledge of RF/CATV and fibre systems (fibre-to-the home/FTTH, FTTB, FTTx) an asset
- Previous telecommunications or utility drafting and design experience an asset
