As a Network and Telecom Administrator, you will install, maintain, troubleshoot, and evaluate all local area networking devices, related software for our head office and remote locations, and telephone systems. The level of work required is considered intermediate and you must be able to work under general supervision. You will report to the manager of the team and will have no direct reports.

Your Responsibilities

  • Resolve moderately complex reported problems and defects associated with network and telecommunications equipment
  • Support security, disaster recovery and similar functions related to the provisioning of network and telecommunications related services
  • Assist in the review and evaluation of vendor network and telecommunications products
  • Support all changes of the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago’s telephone system
  • Participate in change management, performance analysis, inventory management, technical standards, and procedure support activities of the Bank’s network and telecommunications systems
  • Provide technical support and assistance to telecommunications administration group including supporting dedicated telecommunication PCs and applications
  • Conduct feasibility studies for small projects, develops requests for proposal, evaluates vendor products, and makes recommendations on selection
  • Conduct employee training sessions on network and telecommunication equipment and services

Your Background

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience in computer science, mathematics, telecommunications, or other information technology related disciplines
  • 3-5 years of direct work-related experience in the network and telecommunications fields
  • Detailed knowledge of the technical aspects of networks and telecommunications
  • Prior experience working through telecommunication and network trouble determination, evaluation, and resolution
  • Experienced organizational, documentation and communications skills
  • Advanced PC skills including Microsoft Office suite, Windows operating systems as well as the ability to quickly learn new applications
  • Knowledgeable of VOIP phone systems
  • Experienced with data networking principles and topologies
  • Knowledge of structured cabling systems and lay-outs
  • Independent thinking and decision-making abilities
  • May travel up to 5-10 % of time

Location: This position is a Hybrid role in Chicago, IL with 2 weeks of every 6 weeks on onsite
