Job Purpose Summary:

This is a front-line supervisory position, a working position that is responsible for both supervisory tasks as well as physical construction. The Construction Project Lead must possess considerable knowledge of methods, materials, and techniques used in telecommunications underground construction, along with an ability to communicate effectively, maintain working relations with co-workers, sub-contractors and customer contacts. And resolve problems with appropriate and timely decisions. A project lead may train employees under their supervision, ensure appropriate use of equipment by employees, communicate progress on the project and maintain the employee subcontractor schedule.

Key Responsibilities/Duties:

The main duty is leading field projects that include subcontractor construction crews and TurnKey crews. Responsibilities of assuring that all crews at the project site are working safely and efficiently and that everything is going according to the suggested plan as well as effective communication with customer or site contact anf co-workers The duties include, but are not limited to the following

  • Job Preparation – Assess job priorities; verifying that all required materials and tools are ready and available; confirm the right of way-utility locates and running lines are marked in advance; identify availability of suitable water sources; verify bore path with crew; coordinate daily setup of all construction and road safety signage;
  • Supervision – Lay out daily work schedule and assign tasks to appropriate individuals; enforce company policies, regulations and safety standards; address minor morale and grievance issues; conduct on site coordination with subcontractors; provide employee training as require/directed by the supervisor; provide regular on the job instruction concerning maintenance procedures and use of equipment;
  • Safety – Making sure safety precautions are followed daily including the availability of first aid equipment; conduct regularly scheduled safety meetings; coordinate with Safety Coordinator; follow reporting procedures for work related injuries; maintain updated safety training and first aid certifications;
  • Administrative – Enter or report labor time, materials used and subcontractor production; maintain daily weather conditions report; follow utility hit reporting/escalation process; prepare and submit expense receipts/report; maintain equipment maintenance records; meet with inspectors; collect photographic documentation; generate red line as-builts; communicate with project manager for updates;
  • Equipment Maintenance – Perform daily preventative maintenance on all TurnKey assigned equipment assuring that tools, vehicles, and equipment are properly maintained and kept in proper working condition; notify Supervisor of any equipment issues; perform regularly required walk around inspections;
  • Communication – It is imperative to the growth and effectiveness of the company that each jobsite lead be an effective communicator. Sharing ideas and communicating key issues to their supervisors, managers, operations, and finance will ensure that situations are handled proactively before they become issues. The goals of communication are to inform, clarify and exchange information. The more informed we are the better armed we are to handle any and all situations.

Performance Measurable:

  • Success rate of job completion at or below estimated cost; public safety/utility hit record; employee safety record; ability to adhere to internal processes; maintenance of company provided equipment; ability to effectively lead the crew and subs, maintaining morale and enthusiasm for the work; ability to effectively communicate with supervisors, management, operations and finance; customer satisfaction.

Compensation Package Includes:

Weekly salary, benefits including 401k Company match, opportunity for bonus, $125 per diem per out of town night, Company truck, laptop, smart phone, fuel card, tools, Company provided tools, equipment, PPE, etc.

Working Conditions Include:

  • Outside work, working in inclement weather conditions. Including rain, snow, mud, heat, cold, wind. And, the great Midwest state’s weather days too!
  • Typical Monday – Friday work schedule, could be 10+ hours daily. Occasional weekend work for emergencies. Out of town M-F travel as needed.
  • Standing, sitting, lifting, squatting, walking, pushing, pulling, climbing, reaching overhead frequently.
  • Lifting 50+lbs.
  • Driving vehicles regularly.
  • CDL A preferred, will send/pay for the right candidate to attend training.
  • Acceptable motor vehicle record over previous 3-5 years.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: From $70,000.00 per year
