What can I expect to do in this role?
In this role, you will:
- provide field level telecommunications services as required on project fire and other emergency situations
- ensure specialized telecommunications equipment is serviceable and ready for deployment
- conduct site inspections and audits
- complete minor maintenance at sites and/or arrange for maintenance to be completed
- maintain records related to maintenance, tower locations and related instruments
- provide assistance to field units as single point of contact for telecommunications issues and concerns
- provide training to staff on use of radios and specialized equipment
Note: This position will require travel and work in any area of the Province and/or Canada when necessary.
How do I qualify?
Mandatory requirements:
- You must have a valid class ‘G’ driver’s licence or equivalent, as recognized by the Province of Ontario. The offer of employment is conditional upon the successful candidate providing proof that they have a valid driver’s licence upon being hired.
- You have the ability to lift objects weighing up to 50 pounds from the ground to shoulder height unassisted.
- You have the ability to work for extended periods of time in adverse weather conditions.
- You are willing and able to fly as a passenger in helicopters and small aircraft, including the ability to meet all of the current requirements of air travel in Canada.
Technical knowledge:
- You have the ability to interpret and apply acts, regulations, policies and procedures (e.g. Request for Service, Fire Operations Plan) to provide technical advice, monitor compliance, recommend controls and purchase services/equipment/supplies.
- You have proven knowledge of electronics and troubleshooting techniques to modify, repair or install radio equipment.
- You have proficiency with spreadsheet software (e.g. Excel) to collect, analyze data, prepare spreadsheets, input and retrieve data.
- You have the ability to utilize a wide range of technical instrumentation including digital cameras, scanners, GPS and low band radios.
Analytical, planning and coordinating skills:
- You have analytical and evaluation skills to formulate field plans, assess new equipment and technologies for operational use and to assess operations plans and procedures.
- You have well developed planning and coordinating skills to prepare and revise daily plans under changing escalating conditions, coordinate the deployment of materials, staff and equipment, and provide input into operational plans.
Interpersonal and communication skills:
- You possess strong interpersonal and communication skills to provide direction to staff and contractors.
- You have written communication skills to prepare reports and correspondence.
