About the Programme

Internships last between 3 to 10 months, and commence at any point during the calendar year. With the support from our Security team you will have to obtain a security clearance before taking up your post with us, so we are flexible on your potential start date.

During this programme you will join and support different teams and the same time you will learn from our business experts via on-the-job training and shadowing.

Eligibility Criteria

As an Intern at the NCIA, you’ll be expected to be able to relate and network well with your colleagues by being able to easily establish good relationships across the Agency and work with people at all levels. By building an effective network of contacts, you will create and innovate by producing new ideas, approach or insights to the projects and activities that you will undertake. We expect our Interns to deliver results by focusing on the needs of your stakeholders and work in a systematic, methodical and orderly way to achieve your projects or activity goals.

You need to be national of a NATO member country, be currently studying towards a university-level degree or have recently graduated, in the past 12 months, and have strong communication skills in English, both written and oral.

In order to assess your eligibility for the Internship Programme, please attach the following documents:

  • Proof of ongoing studies with the dates clearly mentioned if you are still studying.

Internship Description

Internship duration: 10 months

Within the NCIA, the NATO Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) is responsible for planning and executing all lifecycle management activities for cyber security. In executing this responsibility, NCSC provides specialist cyber security-related services covering the spectrum of scientific, technical, acquisition, operations, maintenance, and sustainment support, throughout the lifecycle of NATO Communications and Information Systems (CIS). The NCSC enables secure conduct of the Alliance’s operations and business in the NATO Network-Enabled Capability (NNEC) environment and in the context of NATO’s C4ISR. The NCSC provides cyber security services to NCI Agency customers and users, as well as to all other elements of the Agency; this includes all Service Lines, Programme Offices, CIS Support Units/Elements, and the Agency Operations Centre. The NCSC is responsible for providing the broad spectrum of services in the following specialist security areas: CIS Security, Cyber Defence, Information Assurance, Computer Security & Communications Security. In executing its responsibilities, the NCSC provides support to the development and implementation of cyber security-related policy, strategy, and provides lifecycle security risk management services for all NATO CIS

You will be based in The Hague, Netherlands and you will s upport NCSC CapDev team in technical tasks including:

  • Research on related to cyber security technologies, products, threats, vulnerabilities, services, market offerings, technological developments
  • Analysis on internal and external documentation to compile relevant information for a given scope in a multi-stakeholder environment
  • Creating / revising documentation on processes, technical architectures, designs, reports and similar documents
  • Performing experimental technical activities
  • Support NCSC CapDev team in non-technical tasks including: information management, document management, portal / Web content management, content coherence / quality control

We would like you to:

  • Be a studying Cyber Security, Computer Science, Electronics, Telecommunications or other related field. Exceptionally, students with a different educational background and interest & certification in cyber security/ IT be considered
  • Possess technical aptitudes
  • Have knowledge in cyber security technologies and recent developments, in IT technologies
  • Have experience in using office applications (word processing, spreadsheets, etc.)
  • Possess problem-solving skills, be detail oriented
  • Be effective in time management and in physical and digital office communications

Compensation

You will be compensated at a fixed taxable rate of 1238.39 EUR per month, based on 38 hours of work per week and for travel expenses.

Please note that all interns must be security cleared prior to taking up their internship and for that reason we need some flexibility in the internship start date and end date.
