New employees must provide documentation/proof of full COVID-19 vaccination status, a 2-step TB screening, as well as proof of immunity to measles, mumps, rubella, and varicella (chickenpox) prior to their start date at St. Mary’s General Hospital. Staff will require clearance from Employee Health and Wellness before they are able to begin any position within SMGH.

Position Summary :
Switchboard Operators answer and relay all incoming, outgoing and inter-departmental calls that need to be transmitted through the central switchboard system. Those in this role greet visitors, respond to general enquiries, perform basic clerical functions, and complete/distribute various documents related to these functions.

Position Requirements:
Minimum Grade 12 Diploma

Average keyboard skills

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

Able to work with minimal supervision

Must have a positive work record and good attendance

Position Responsibilities:
Operate “Meridian Option 61C” Switchboard

Direct visitors/patients/hospital personnel

Maintain Patient Index File

Page Hospital Codes

Maintain and operate hospital emergency and alarm system

Other duties as required
