Lead Test Rod & Rope Engineer – Telecoms

Field-Based Permanent Full-Time

Travelling to our sites within Hampshire and Surrey

£35k-£40K per annum, DOE, plus company benefits package and provision of company van *

About the role:

We are looking for an experienced, field-based Lead Test Rod & Rope Engineer to build and maintain new and existing Core Telecommunications Access Networks, Installation rope/Subduct, and check Customer Lead-ins. You should also enjoy training and mentoring junior engineers and enjoy interacting with our customers.

​What you’ll be doing:

  • Test Rod & Roping/cabling UG ducts/pole bends on working within the Openreach and PIA network
  • Building and maintaining new and existing Core Telecommunications Access Networks, Installation rope/Subduct, and check Customer Lead-ins
  • Attend sites, covering Surrey and Hampshire’ and provide underground cabling
  • Risk assessment and hazard identification and a strong focus on Health and Safety practices
  • Training & mentoring our Trainee TR&R Engineers
  • Representing toob on site and with any customer interactions
  • Any BT Openreach Orion Survey experience would be an advantage.

What you’ll bring to the role:

  • Have at least 10 years experience of Test Rod & Roping/cabling UG ducts/pole bends on working within the Openreach and PIA network
  • Highly motivated and able to work independently as well as be a team player
  • Have a proven track record of training and mentoring trainee engineers and enjoy helping others to develop and be able to lead by example
  • Have great communication skills and are motivated to complete work to high standards
  • Be customer service driven and able to represent toob to a high standard in the field
  • Be pragmatic, solutions based and enjoy working in a fast-paced environment with a health and safety focus
  • Full UK Driving License holder with no more than 6 penalty points on licence
  • Have the right to work in the UK
  • Live within commutable distance to Hampshire and Surrey and be happy to travel to sites.

Certifications required:

  • Sign, Lighting & Guarding (street works)/SWQR Card (Unit 2)
  • NOPS Registration
  • Safety underground
  • Rod and rope underground duct using a Cobra or 3-meter rods
  • SA002 (A9)/K008
  • First Aid trained FAW desirable
  • Confined spaces (medium risk) desirable
