We are seeking a motivated, detail oriented, and customer-centric Senior Project Manager to join the team and lead complex projects that enable NLC to provide best-in-class training and education to the craft workforce. This individual will lead projects that span program development and improvement, large-scale IT, property and land acquisition, facilities improvements, process improvement, strategic imperatives, and leadership directives. In addition, the Senior Project Manager will serve as a mentor and coach other project managers and serve as an advisor to the Project Management Office leadership on PM best practices, agile methods, and process improvement. The ideal candidate will have a depth of experience managing projects through clear, frequent communication and repeatable processes while remaining focused on delivering value to the organization and its customers. Reports to the PMO Manager. Current PMP certification required.
What you’ll be doing:
  • Conduct the needs analysis to establish projects and leads them through planning, initiating, executing, monitoring, controlling, and closing phases
  • Lead highly effective project teams made up of internal and external members by communicating the project mission, individual roles, and expectations, and aligning project team members, sponsors, and stakeholders
  • Clearly and frequently communicate project status through status reports, team meetings, sponsor updates, briefing senior leadership, and NLC-wide mediums including SharePoint and corporate video updates
  • Drive resolution to risks, action items, issues, and decisions by leveraging the team’s capabilities, sponsor influence, detailed contract management, negotiations with vendors, and creatively managing the project budget
  • Collaborate with Legal, Contracts, Real Estate, Supply Chain, and Procurement teams to establish, review, vet, execute, monitor, and close contracts through competitive RFP’s and NLC’s network and receive necessary materials for the project in alignment with supply chain procedures and SOX compliance requirements
  • Collaborate with Finance and Accounting to establish the project budget, including CapEx, ongoing operational costs, and revenue
  • Partner with PMO leadership to establish change management and project handoff best practices for the department
  • Coach and mentor other project managers through all project phases to include providing timely feedback, delivering training, and collaborative problem solving
  • Service as an advisor to PMO and NLC leadership on project management best practices, agile methodology, and process improvements to increase quality and efficiency of the PMO
  • Commit to continual self-improvement and lifelong learning; and ensuring the success of other employees and the organization, in accordance with NLC’s values, mission, ethos, and job descriptions
Required education & experience:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Project Management, Business Management, Construction Management, Finance, or related field
  • Minimum of seven (7) years’ experience in a project management role
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification in good standing
  • Experience leading projects that involve internal stakeholders, contractors/vendors, and external customers
  • Proven ability to solve problems creatively
  • Experience mentoring and leading project managers and project teams
  • Experience working in a utility industry preferred
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, Visio, and SharePoint) preferred
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD preferred
