Job Description
Our client’s telecommunication networks are changing rapidly due to evolving business and customer needs. To meet these needs, legacy networks must be modernized for generation stations, substations, control centers and facilities. The responsibilities of the Networking Engineer will be to design Internet Protocol (IP) and Multi-Protocol Label Switching connectivity for operational technology (OT) electronic devices such as relays, Remote Terminal Units (RTUs), meters and transformer monitors.
Responsibilities
- Performs IT work in Telecom Network Engineering for OT electric and water grid devices
- Design IP/MPLS networks and understand the underlying technologies associated with them
- Prepare documentation such as network diagrams, internal process and procedure guides
- Prepares and/or conducts written and oral reports and presentations to peers and management
- Identify trends and root causes of challenges, determines solutions, and makes recommendations for management consideration
- Applies IT processes/methods, practices and techniques to deliver solutions for Telecommunication Systems
- Performs site visits with other Telecommunication Systems team members
Qualifications
- Strong understanding of IP/MPLS networks
- Able to thrive in a highly dynamic environment
- Understands foundational cyber security principles
- Understands the convergence of IT and OT technologies, jargon and personnel
- Team player attitude
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Willingness to share information and experiences
- Basic/Intermediate understanding of utility grids, including electric and water
