Location

ESTEC, Noordwijk, Netherlands , with possibility of full or part time residency in Industry during part of the duration of the project.

Description
You will work on the activities related to the Greek National Satellite Space Project for which ESA is providing technical support. The project is part of the nation’s Recovery and Resilience Facility plans, which aim to enhance Greece’s capabilities in satellite technologies and applications, and to empower the country to exchange satellite data.

You will report to the System Manager and you will be responsible for monitoring the satellite platform design, development, manufacturing and testing as well as Satellite AIT activities. You will work in close cooperation with the Payload Engineer.

Duties
  • Monitoring design, development, manufacturing and testing of the Satellite platform, with special attention to the adaptations needed for the mission;
  • Monitoring the platform and integrated satellite level AIT and schedule;
  • Maintaining – ESA-internally – all relevant platform budgets and supporting maintenance of integrated satellite budgets;
  • Monitoring definition, preparation and execution of the platform level on-ground and in-orbit tests;
  • Monitoring preparation of the platform flight operational procedures;
  • Identifying potential risks at platform level and proposing appropriate risk mitigation measures;
  • Coordinating, together with the Product Assurance Manager, the implementation of ESA expertise to support platform and integrated satellite level activities;
  • As part of residency, when applicable, monitoring day to day activity on satellite platform manufacturing and AIT;
  • Participating to Satellite platform and Project reviews;
  • Ensuring regular reporting to senior ESA management via Project manager.
You will be working in a cross-functional team which spans across the departments of the Directorate and which is supported by technical experts from within the matrix structure. You will also be interfacing closely with the various project teams as well as the related industrial teams.

Education
A Master’s degree in an engineering or scientific discipline is required.
Additional requirements
  • Strong problem-solving skills, with a pragmatic approach, to deal with day-to-day operational challenges;
  • Strong results orientation with the ability to set priorities and present practical solutions, together with demonstrated planning and organisational skills;
  • The ability to summarise complex information and have good communication skills, both verbal and written;
  • The ability to work effectively in an international team environment;
  • Experience in working in complex space programmes up to launch and in-orbit testing is desirable, preferably in telecommunications.
Direct experience of working with a commercial telecommunication’s prime contractor and/or operator will be a distinct advantage. Experience with ESA’s Partnership Projects would be an asset.
You have experience in working in a cross-functional team and in promoting innovation through a creative collaboration process.

The working languages of the Agency are English and French. A good knowledge of one of these is required. Knowledge of another Member State language would be an asset.
