Network and I.T. Operations Manager

As a member of the IT Department, the Network and IT Operations Manager is responsible to the Director, IT. The Network and IT Operations Manager has the primary responsibility to manage the operation of the network, server and systems infrastructure, as well as to provide daily supervision and coordination of the IT Support team members, ensuring all activities serve the instructional and administrative needs of the school.

Reporting to the Director, IT, this position has responsibility for ensuring the IT Department has the support needed to ensure we can continue to meet the growing internal and external expectations. As with all other team members, the position will advise and support the IT strategy as required.

Specific responsibilities

  • Manage and coordinate the IT Support members (DBA, helpdesk) of the IT Department to maintain daily operations of the IT infrastructure and to provide quality and timely IT support to school constituents
  • Coordinate IT infrastructure project activities to ensure timely and successful completion
  • Management of the server landscape (virtual and physical), including File/Print/DC/DNS/DHCP/App/Mail/Web/VoIP
  • Management of the software landscape including SaaS platforms used at the school (e.g. Blackbaud, Google Workspace, Adobe)
  • Server systems vulnerability and patch management in line with the school’s cyber security plan
  • Management of the backup and disaster recovery system in line with the school’s cyber security plan
  • Support of office infrastructure including PBX, building security systems/cameras, Facility control systems
  • Network configuration, monitoring and threat management, including firewall administration
  • LAN/WLAN network optimization for various user groups in a hybrid school-owned/BYOD environment
  • Management of network component and server maintenance with local vendors and service providers
  • User account management and group policies (e.g Active Directory, Google Workspace), Documentation of the network and systems security procedures and the network infrastructure in line with the school’s cyber security plan
  • Work closely with the Director, IT to maintain effective Information Technology Controls as a subset of the school’s internal control system
  • Implementation and roll-out of school-wide hardware, software and technological services in consultation with the Director, IT
  • Coordination of current hardware, software, cloud platform, and support service contracts and subscriptions
  • Management of the service level claims of maintenance and support contracts, warranty claims and repairs of IT equipment Advise the Director, IT on technology budgetary needs and assist in IT budget monitoring
  • Inventory management of all IT equipment
  • Provide backup/secondary support to the Helpdesk team
  • Other I.T duties as required
  • Communication to the school community about updates, migrations and outages of IT systems and services

Qualifications, skills and abilities

  • Ideally, the applicant has 5+ years proven experience in network and IT operations management in a small to medium-sized enterprise
  • Ideally, the applicant has 3+ years’ experience in managing people and coordinating the activities of a technical support team
  • A degree in Computer Science/Telecommunications or a related field, or equivalent technical training and certifications is desired.
  • Knowledge of Exchange administration an asset
  • Knowledge of Blackbaud K12, Raiser’s Edge and Financial Edge an asset
  • Knowledge of Watchguard an asset
