Data Communications Technician

Element Controls is currently seeking a self-motivated, experienced individual to join our workforce as a Data Communications Technician.

Job Location: Fort McMurray & Surrounding Region

Travel Information: Flights from Edmonton or Calgary

Accommodation: Camp

Shift: 7/7, 12-hour days

Approximate Length of Work: 1-year contract with extension if successful

The Data Technician is responsible for the assembly, install, repair, and maintenance of communications structured systems, Wireless communications systems such as tiresense for heavy equipment, Sirius satellite radio set up, troubleshooting and repairs, communications cabling, Low voltage systems maintenance, and general shop maintenance.

Qualifications

• Electrical or Instrumentation certification preferred, but would accept data/technology experience with an understanding of electronics
• Pre-employment D&A test
• CSTS
• Fall Arrest
• Aerial Lift
• H2S Alive
• Demonstrates a history of safe laboring practices

Experience & Skill Requirements

• Installation of structured cable components. (Cat 5E, Cat 6, Cat 6A, Fiber Optic)
• Installation and testing of communication circuits via available communications cabling network
• Service, maintenance, and troubleshooting of commercial and/or industrial wireless and hardwire communication circuits and/or cabling networks.
• Trouble shoot, repair, replace components when required
• Facilitate employee development and training of new hires
• Repair and adjust connections, fittings, and couplings
• Read and interpret telecommunication drawings and specifications
• Electrical or Instrumentation certification preferred
• Knowledge of IP networks
• Previous experience with wireless communication systems
• Previous cabling experience (cat5, cat6, coax)
• Mechanical aptitude, willingness to learn, positive attitude, self-starter
