Are you an experienced Communications Technician looking for a new challenge? In this role you will be required to safely plan and implement preventative maintenance and repairs to ensure critical network sustainment and standards of performance are met. This role is based in our Fort St John office (BC).
What you will do
- To operate and maintain all communications equipment at station(s) throughout your region as required.
- Be capable of working all Unifor 4960 shifts.
- Complete associated Operator Qualifications, orientations for each station/asset/facility within your region, as required.
- Complete all required safety, operations, and training.
- Perform maintenance/operations activities.
- Create/review procedures.
Who you are
You have the following qualifications and skills:
Required:
- Communications Technician Progression – Communications Technician/Technologist (graduate of a recognized two-year technology program) with relevant communications experience.
- Valid driver’s license.
Preferred:
- Communications Journey person or Diploma/certificate in telecommunications/electronics from a recognized technical institute
- A minimum of five (5) years of relevant telecommunications experience.
- Must be familiar with and operate all telecommunications test equipment is essential
- Previous experience working with Mitel phones systems, Cisco network switches, routers and access point.
- Knowledge of and ability to maintain/troubleshoot, cellular, satellite systems, VHF/UHF RF radio systems cabling, connectors and antennas, and specifications.
- Knowledge of SCADA control systems.
- Strong understanding of the processes and procedures of ITS and structured cabling methodologies such as Cat 5e, Cat 6 Cabling, Fiber Optic Cabling and Terminations, knowledge of TCP/IP licensing.
- Basic knowledge of access control, intrusion, and CCTV systems.
- Advanced Computer Networking Background.
- Flexible to work various shifts: days, evenings, and weekends, to meet business needs.
- Demonstrated professional oral and written communications skills.
- Strong diagnostic skills, and resolve technical telecommunication problems, be self-motivated and calm under pressure.
- Proven organizational and time management skills, including the ability to problem solve, prioritize, and work effectively on multiple projects.
- Strong problem-solving and critical-thinking skills.
