The Opportunity
As a valued member of our Network Communications team, you will be responsible for the design, modeling, lifecycle management, development and testing of substation communication systems related to SCADA, voice, data, radio, tele protection channels, firewalls, VPN and network switching. In addition, the team will evaluate communication system design for overall effectiveness, security, cost, reliability, safety and is regularly involved in investigating system failures in order to recommend improvements in order to maintain communication quality and availability.
In this role, you will be required to have a solid technical background with a strong commitment to maintaining cybersecurity standards and best practices. You have practical experience in the design, procurement, installation and commissioning of Operational Technology and telecommunications systems in the utility industry. You are knowledgeable in the management of project controls including budgeting, scheduling, forecasting and risk analysis, including providing engineering review and sign-off for OT projects. You have a strong computer background including proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and AutoCAD.
Your qualifications include a degree in Electrical, Electronics or Telecommunications Engineering supplemented by 5-10 years’ experience. You must be eligible for registration as a Professional Engineer with PEGNL. Knowledge of current IT networking technologies, VPN, Firewall, protection relays, IED management systems and Eaton Gateway systems would be considered assets. Inter-provincial travel will be required.
You are a highly motivated team player with a strong commitment to safety, environment and customer service, have an excellent work ethic, and effective interpersonal and communication skills. You thrive in a multi-project environment and must possess the ability to transition quickly between projects and daily work tasks in an organized manner. You have strong problem solving and analytical skills and exceptional judgment to achieve results.
