The OSP Planning and Design Manager is responsible for the shared services of design and planning. The Manager is accountable for maintaining accurate and complete maps and inventory of new and existing Outside Plant Network. This position also includes responsibility for design, planning, and budgeting projects for expansion, maintenance, improvements, capacity, and upgrades for the relevant plant. The Manager is responsible for management, training, safety, and development of a staff of qualified engineers and technicians. Travel to GoNetspeed properties in may be required.

The Design and Planning team is responsible for designing, planning, and documenting Outside Plant to ensure optimal efficiency and cost-effectiveness through utilization of industry-best practices. The team is also responsible for mapping and inventorying the Outside Plant, maintaining those records in GoNetspeed systems, and making information usable by other departments within GoNetspeed and outside resources as needed.

Essential Job Functions:

Team management of all functional responsibilities listed below:

  • Generates long-term (multi-year) network development plans and strategies, including achieving A-CAM milestones
  • Designs new fiber networks to support standardized data services.
  • Plans, designs, and coordinates complex network augments and rearrangements to the existing network.
  • Tracks and reports on projects for performance metrics and cost.
  • Supports regional leaders in buildout of FTTP network construction projects with responsibility to facilitate completion of annual build targets.
  • Maintains sufficient network capacity in outside plant systems.
  • Responsible for short term planning, budget preparation.
  • Produces forecasts of inventory needed for construction projects.
  • Manages and assign projects and initiatives.
  • Tracks employee performance throughout the year and perform annual reviews.
  • Identifies individual training and development plans for employees that help the company meet its objectives and retain and develop staff.
  • Supports regional teams in response to outages and recovery process.
  • Develops and documents department policies and procedures.
  • Supports design of line setup and staking specifications, and cable and line extensions.
  • Conducts job costing activities and prices out job components.
  • Maintains all contractor as-built changes and updates to drawings.
  • Ability to travel within and outside GoNetspeed’s current footprint, when required.
  • Performs all other related duties as assigned by management. *

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Management skills, including ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects and priorities, and ability to lead and mentor teams
  • Process focus, with an ability to examine work and identify opportunities for improved efficiency
  • Experience with outside plant engineering.
  • Working knowledge of FTTH network design, including various PON architectures.
  • Knowledge of NESC code pertaining to telecommunications infrastructure.
  • Experience with Google Maps/Earth, AutoCAD, ESRI, Adobe Acrobat and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to read and interpret legal land descriptions and easement agreements.
  • Ability to work independently on multifaceted projects.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills to present facts clearly and accurately in graphic form.
  • Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail.
  • Knowledge of industry standards and best common operating procedures.
  • Knowledge of general office procedures.
  • Ability to communicate with customers, co-workers, and various business contacts in a professional and courteous manner.
  • Ability to follow written and oral instructions.
  • Ability to work with numbers and calculations and create budgets and forecasts.
  • Ability to effectively function as a team player.
  • Occasional travel may be required.

Education and Experience:

  • 2- or 4-year degree preferred, high school diploma required.
  • Ten years of relevant technical experience.
  • Prior successful management experience required.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: From $90,000.00 per year

Schedule:

  • 8 hour shift

Ability to commute/relocate:

  • New Gloucester, ME 04260: Reliably commute or planning to relocate before starting work (Required)

Experience:

  • Computer networking: 1 year (Preferred)

License/Certification:

  • Driver’s License (Preferred)

Willingness to travel:
