WHAT YOU’LL DO
Under the general direction of the Outside Plant Superintendent, the Manager will lead the Central Office department by providing clear direction and support to obtain the highest level of service performance. The Manager will coordinate, plan, and prioritize work activities for the department while coaching the team in error reduction, advanced skills, and productivity improvement. Additionally, this individual will focus on standard operating procedures, monitor trends and best practices for the Central Office facilities, and oversee the management of all hardware assets.
This Manager will also develop and manage the capital budget for the Central Office resources and oversee the staff’s technical education and professional development. S/he will provide direction during emergency and scheduled maintenance activities and regularly use a computer, cell phone, and company vehicle.
The Manager is responsible for a significant amount of planning and scheduling activities and responsibilities. These activities and responsibilities include but are not limited to: preparing work schedules, assigning/reviewing work, training employees, overseeing contracts and contractors, recalling employees to work in emergencies, and conducting employee performance evaluations. Additionally, the Manager will recommend network improvements/upgrades and develop processes for provisioning and gear installation/removal.

- Planning upgrades and replacements that address the financial and technological lifecycles of components

Typical Working Conditions
- Indoors in a temperature-controlled environment (65%)
- Outdoors exposed to changing weather conditions (15%)
- Indoors in a non-temperature-controlled environment (10%)
- Outdoors but in an enclosed vehicle or temporary shelter protected from extreme weather conditions (10%)
- Exposure to air contamination (5%), vibration (5%), and improperly illuminated or awkward and confining workspaces (5%)
- Occasional driving necessary to assess and oversee work activities at remote work locations (5%)
- Typical schedule is Monday-Friday; 8:00 am-5:00 pm
- May work overtime, evenings, and/or weekends as needed to meet critical deadlines or respond to problems
WHAT YOU NEED
- Bachelor’s degree in Telecommunications or related field
- 5+ years of leadership experience strongly preferred
- 3-5 years of experience in Central Office/Plant Operations strongly preferred
- Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA), A+ certification, Calix certification, or similar certification preferred
- Proficient computer skills, including proven skills in using Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel
- Ability to coach and train employees to achieve exceptional performance
- Strong problem-solving skills
- Ability to develop, examine, reengineer, and recommend network procedures
- Knowledge of digital switching technology and architecture for telephony networks
- Ability to forecast network expenditures and timelines
- Good project management skills; ability to manage large projects and work to deadlines
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to guide safe work practices and comply with company safety procedures
- Valid driver’s license and safe driving record
- Ability to detect color is required for this position
- Expected to learn on the job within 3-6 months – relationship building and how all Smithville departments interact
