We are seeking an Electrical Engineer, EIT to join our Light Commercial/Retail team. This team provides construction site surveys, MEP design, end of project commissioning, troubleshooting, and creative solutions to unique demands within the retail construction environment. This position is responsible for researching, planning, and designing the electrical and power elements of multiple client projects. This role is located in Austin, TX and has a flexible hybrid work schedule.
This position’s responsibilities include, but are not limited to, Lighting, Power Distribution, Emergency Power Systems, and Special Systems:
Lighting
- Knowledge of best lighting design practices
- In depth knowledge of lighting and lighting control systems including relay controls
- Automatic relay-based lighting controls
- Knowledge of the latest energy codes and how it pertains to power and lighting design
Power Distribution
- Low voltage (600 V class) building power distribution
- Medium voltage (5 KV to 38 KV) power distribution not required but welcome
- Analyzing load readings
- Analyzing short circuit coordination
- Ambient de-rating as it relates to duct bank configuration and environment
- Understanding of SKM software a plus, but not required
- Responsible for generating and updating specifications for use on projects
Emergency Power Systems
- Emergency power systems, legally required and optional standby systems
- Standby and Prime electrical power generation and switching technology
- Uninterruptable power systems
Special Systems
- Responsible for coordination of low voltage systems
- Including but not limited to telecommunications, security, AV, nurse call, mass notification, etc.
- Fire alarm system design and in-depth knowledge of the NFPA preferred
- In depth knowledge of grounding and lightning protection systems
Required Qualifications
- Bachelors or Masters Degree in Electrical Engineering
- 3+ years of experience in the MEP Consulting industry, experience with light commercial/retail projects a plus
- Engineer-in-Training Certification in Texas, or the ability to obtain immediately upon hire
- Professional knowledge of a broad range of electrical engineering concepts, principles, and practices
- Excellent multi-tasking capabilities across multiple projects coupled with exceptional communication and client relationship building skills
- Successful management of small and quick turnaround projects
- The ability to self-perform modeling in REVIT MEP and drafting in AutoCAD
- Familiarity with other engineering disciplines and architecture
- Electrical problem resolution and troubleshooting
