High-Level Description
The Network Security Specialist (Load Balancing) reports to the Supervisor, Network Security and Load
Balancing. The Network Security Specialist is responsible for securing the network across the Enterprise
and will be responsible for operational support of the Load Balancers, Firewalls, Cloud initiatives,
Intrusion Prevention Systems (IPS), Web Content Filtering, PKI, WAF, and Security Appliances. This
includes over 1000 sites (Offices, Compressor & Pump Stations and Gas Plants) and connection points
(SCADA/Meter Stations/Block Valves/ EFM). This position also ensures that the Telecommunications
systems are designed following all Customer Inc. standards and that network changes are being properly
planned and executed to minimize potential downtime and outages.
Specific Accountabilities
 Ensure Customer network security infrastructure is maintained in accordance to industry best
practice and follows all Customer IT policies. This includes Load Balancers / Application Delivery
Controllers, Firewalls, Web Content Filters, IPS, VPN, etc
 Assist application groups design, architect and implement solutions that provide redundancy,
acceleration and automated failover and recovery across geographically dispersed locations.
 Involvement in ongoing and new applications with Cloud based environments.
 Work within UNIX and command line based environments for security initiatives, scripting,
maintenance and support.
 Work closely with the Network Security, Network Planning and Network Operations to design secure
and reliable solutions for services and application that are both internal and external facing.
 Ensure Customer network security infrastructure is secure in accordance with Customer policies and
industry best practices, this includes our SCADA and control systems, Liquids and Gas control
centers, data center, LAN and WAN.
 Create substantial technical documentation of design, processes, procedures and configurations for
support and audit purposes.
 Focus of role is to provide broad and/or deep senior technical expertise and/or to directly
coordinate the work of a small team or provide specialized assistance to a specific issue
 Using broad business and technical knowledge to resolve problems, project management,
identifying opportunities and have a keen awareness of interrelationships with other stakeholders.
 Manage and maintain network load balancer security infrastructure for upgrades, patches and
network integration.
 Work closely with the network architects and Operations Support to ensure the telecommunications
infrastructure for critical systems to the meet uptime, reliability, redundancy and security
expectations.
 Communicate to the business unit and other IT staff for network security infrastructure outages and
planned changes. Outages and changes are required to be communicated to key stakeholders in a
timely manner.
 Follow Customer change management requests and will represent network services security at
change request meetings and change advisory board (CAB) meetings.
 Work with Supervisor and the network services security team on operational tasks and project
goals.
 Ensure incident tracking tickets are closed and addressed in accordance to the business SLA’s.
 Inclusion in the network services security load balancing on-call rotation.
 Provide senior support to major incidents.
 Work closely with the ITOC for escalations.

 Ensure the network services security inventory is maintained.
 Lead operational development of Business Continuity / Disaster Recovery for Enterprise
 Communicates as required to any client, internal IT or external vendor in a timely and appropriate
manner.
 Promotes work force diversity and employee safety.
 Supports Customer Control system & business unit networks within defined SLA & KPI’s.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
 Bachelor’s degree in Business, MIS, computer science with diversified information
services/technology experience or equivalent experience.
 Minimum of seven (7) years of directly related experience (Load Balancing, etc).
 Excellent understanding of designing, building, maintaining load balancer infrastructure.
 Excellent understanding of networking concepts, OSI model, protocols, services, etc.
 Excellent documentation skills.
 Good understanding of Firewalls
 Good understanding of UNIX.
 Good understanding of DNS.
 Good understanding of SSL certificates, PKI, OpenSSL, encryption algorithms, ciphers.
 Good understanding of Authentication mechanisms, such as SLDAP, RADIUS, SAML (including
Multi Factor Authentication).
 Good understanding of network security best practices.
 Good understanding of application design and multi layered security models.
 Excellent troubleshooting and analytical skills.
 Excellent organizational skills.
 Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Working Conditions
 Stressful working conditions due to pressure to meet operational and project completion deadlines.
 Work performed in typical office and field environments with occasional travel. The noise level in
the environment is moderate.
 Working under tight deadlines, high profile, fast paced, demanding business environment.
 “On call” evening and weekend work as required and during emergency situations.

Job Type: Full-time

Salary: $65.00-$70.00 per hour
