Senior Telecoms Engineer

This role as a Rail Telecoms Engineer is an opportunity to work as part of our multi-disciplinary design teams delivering a portfolio of varied rail projects as part of an established and expanding Rail Business. You will be part of a diverse team responsible for the successful delivery of our design commissions for major clients, including Network Rail, Contractors, Suppliers and other agencies such as Train Operators, Councils, Passenger Transport Executives and academic institutions.

Our Rail Telecoms team sits within the Digital Services Portfolio business which provides technical, advisory and design services direct to clients and internally to other business sectors.

The Role

We are looking for a Rail Telecoms Engineer with design experience of Operational Telecoms and SISS on the UK Rail Network. You will be involved in a range of projects from consultancy and advisory, enhancements schemes, larger resignalling schemes, new build and station upgrades through to greenfield new route railways. Your time be used to deliver a single large project or split between multiple smaller opportunities.

You will provide telecoms advice and design content to external clients and our multidisciplinary Rail design team colleagues typically for GRIP Stages 2 – 8 and RIBA stages 2 through to 6. Your work will be of a high standard motivated by a desire to deliver outstanding and innovative technical designs and advice to our clients. You will be expected to collaborate with others and to proactively engage in each project and form lasting relationships with clients and colleagues.

This role will be based in our Manchester, Birmingham or London offices with occasional travel to other office locations or project/client sites. Current multidisciplinary projects across various GRIP Stages include Trans Pennine Route Upgrade, Headbolt Lane, Liverpool Central and Portobello Junction LDO.

As part of the Digital Services Portfolio business, you also have the opportunity to work on telecoms projects in other sectors such as aviation and sport. Through our innovate research and investment programme you will also have the opportunity to promote ideas and engage in internal development work contributing to the overall growth and success of Arup.

Skills and Knowledge

• In-depth knowledge and understanding of Operational Communications and SISS within the UK Rail sector
• Able to demonstrate proficient experience of Telecommunications systems design with an emphasis on telecommunication networks and equipment
• Thorough working knowledge of Network Rail Standards and exposure working in virtual design team
• Extensive knowledge of Station Information and Surveillance Systems (SISS)
• Other complementary skill including WLAN technology, DAS, ACS, VSS, IP telephony or Unified Communications would also be beneficial. And working with range of rail operators e.g. TfL, TfGM, IE

Qualifications:

• Relevant Technical Degree (e.g. Engineering, Telecommunications, Electronics, Systems Engineering or equivalent)
• Working towards or have achieved a professional qualification (e.g. CEng/IEng) – membership of relevant professional body (e.g. IET/IRSE)
