Overview:


Term: 1 Year
The people in this position are responsible for providing a high-quality reliable transmission-systems infrastructure for the campus network and its voice, data, and security/surveillance services. Each person participates in a progressive range of activities encompassing the installation, maintenance, and design of cabling media (coax, copper, fibre, etc.), telecommunication rooms and physical security systems. This position is performed on campus.

Responsibilities:

  • Installation, testing, maintenance, and removal of cabling in accordance with established vendor, industry, and UW

    standards
  • Installation, troubleshooting, maintenance of hardware as per work-order specifications
  • Documentation of installation and repair work for billing management
  • Pro-actively monitor for potential issues and make recommendations for remediation
  • Contribute to the planning and design of installation work
  • Advise clients on the costs for move/add/change requests
  • Install and maintain security/surveillance systems and advise clients on their function and use
  • Install and maintain physical access control systems and advise clients on their function and use
  • Performs hardware diagnostic testing to verify proper installations
  • Configuration, testing, maintenance of assigned hardware and software
  • Diagnoses reported problems and determines cause in hardware, software, and or user action and completes repairs appropriately
  • Work with vendors to diagnose and resolve problems and co- ordinate and install upgrades to system components
  • Participate in an on-call rotation

Qualifications:

  • College degree or equivalent combination of education and/or experience
  • 2 or more years’ experience installing, and troubleshooting physical cable distributions (copper and fiber cabling)
  • 2 or more years’ experience installing, and troubleshooting access control systems
  • 2 or more years’ experience installing, and troubleshooting intrusion detection and video surveillance systems
  • Must possess excellent interpersonal, customer service, communication (oral and written), problem solving, analytical, and time management skills
  • Outstanding detective and investigative skills with the ability to identify and diagnose complex, non-intuitive technical problems as well as demonstrated ability to interact with a wide variety of clients under stressful conditions is an asset
  • Must be able to document and follow procedures
  • Must have excellent customer service skills
  • Must have a valid G driver’s license
  • Must be able to lift and carry (up-to 50lbs), work at a desk, and on a ladder
