Description of Job

This position exists to perform monitoring and notification to State, county, local, tribal and private service providers of equipment malfunctions, failures and failure trends for the statewide digital trunked radio (DTR) system, microwave systems, IP network, IP network device, digital data circuit, telephone equipment, emergency power system and other electronic equipment, both locally and at remote sites; serve as a central collection and dissemination point for technical DTR system information and reports to federal, State, county, local, tribal and private service provider customers statewide; provide radio programming template development, modification and verification to customers statewide across multiple manufacturers of radios; maintain and update various DTR system databases including DTR system information, DTR system infrastructure, and DTR radio assets; assist other agencies in solving communications problems; gather information for use in planning and designing future communications systems.

Primary Job Duties:
Perform monitoring and notification to federal, State, county, local, tribal and private service providers of equipment malfunctions, failures and failure trends for the statewide digital trunked radio (DTR) system, microwave systems, IP network, IP network device, digital data circuit, telephone equipment, emergency power system and other electronic equipment, both locally and at remote sites.
Provide radio programming template development, modification and verification to customers statewide across multiple manufacturers of radios
Serve as a central collection and dissemination point for technical DTR system information and reports to federal, State, county, local, tribal and private service provider customers statewide. May be required to maintain asset tracking for the location, will vary by shop.
Create, maintain and update various DTR system databases including DTR system information, DTR system Infrastructure, and DTR radio assets.
Receives training from the DTR system engineer or the DTR system technician on analyzing operation, detecting problems, analyzing microwave and two-way radio systems for failures using Motorola Unified Event Manager and Aviat ProVision on the DTR and microwave system networks.

Minimum Qualifications, Substitutions, Conditions of Employment & Appeal Rights

A wide salary range is posted for this position and any job offer is based upon a salary analysis to comply with the Colorado Equal Pay for Equal Work Act. The salary analysis considers relevant experience, education, certifications, and state seniority as compared to others doing substantially similar work. While all offers are compliant with the Colorado Equal Pay for Equal Work Act, there is no guarantee an offer will be at the top of the posted range based on the salary analysis.


Minimum Qualifications:

Two years of experience in an occupational field related to the work assigned to the position, to include previous experience with computer networking, electronics, and/or land mobile radio.

State Workplace
: Employee regularly works in a State office or facility and may have temporary or ad hoc flex place arrangements but not an established agreement. This employee will be flagged in CPPS as a “State Facility” worker. No further action is required during the validation process.


Preferred Qualifications:

Relevant years of State Service in a position with similar duties.

Experience with microwave radio networks or land mobile radio networks.

Some experience with computer networking setup and troubleshooting.


Conditions of Employment:


OIT employees must
comply with any screening procedures in place at state entity locations where they might be required to perform work.

A pre-employment background check will be conducted as part of the selection process.

This position is governed by the State Classified Personnel System, and as such, is only available to candidates who are current State of Colorado residents at the time of application.

Positions supporting some agencies such as the Department of Corrections and Department of Public Safety will also require a pre-employment drug test.

This position may occasionally require travel within the specified geographic area, and to locations across the state as needed.

This position may require on-call duties as needed by position.
