(Job #517711) Network Analyst (Career), Network Analyst, Anticipated hiring range $5,800 – $6,500. Appointments are typically made at the beginning of the salary range. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience. This is a full-time, benefited, exempt, 12-month pay plan, permanent position with a one-year probationary period in Information Technology Services (ITS), Network Services department. Position Summary:

Cal Poly Humboldt invites applicants for the position of Network Analyst, which will join the team responsible for operating the growing campus and regional wired and wireless networks on the main Arcata campus and throughout the region. This team will also be designing and building a high-speed, low-latency dedicated Science Network; this will connect multiple campus research facilities with other California State universities, the Pacific Research Platform, and international partner campuses.

Key Responsibilities:

• Support the Cal Poly Humboldt Campus Network, including switches, routers, and wireless access points
• Help build and deploy CBRS wireless connectivity
• Analyze traffic patterns, provide reporting of usage, capacity and load
• Support connectivity at distributed research locations

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Associated with this Position Include:

• Ability to problem solve, work effectively under time pressure and formulate flexible approaches to problem resolution
• Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with team members, vendors, and customers
• Strong enterprise troubleshooting skills involving systems, networks, and heterogenous client endpoints
• Demonstrated documentation skills that include process, configuration, topology diagrams, and project planning
• Demonstrated cultural humility, sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of students, faculty, and staff
• Possess knowledge and experience with network security and protocols/services including, Ethernet, TCP/IP, RS232, H.323, VoIP, DHCP, DNS, SYSLOG.
• Must have a good working knowledge of PCs & Macintosh operating systems and various PC applications including CAD, word processing, spreadsheets.
• Experience with cabling and distribution systems including twisted pair and fiber.
• Must have knowledge of TIA/EIA codes and standards and national fire codes concerning commercial buildings. Must be highly motivated and self-directed.
• Ability to problem solve, work effectively under time pressure and formulate flexible approaches to problem resolution; demonstrated ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships and communicate effectively.

Minimum Qualifications:

To enter this classification, a basic foundation of knowledge and skills in technical, information network systems is a prerequisite. This foundation would normally be obtained through a bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, industrial technology, telecommunications or a related technical field, or equivalent training and experience. Foundation knowledge and skills for the Network Analyst include a basic knowledge of telecommunications and transmission technologies, including network architecture, topologies, protocols, programming applications and interfaces appropriate to the defined work area and assignments. Based on specialized assignments, a position may also require background, and/or licensure if required, in computer operating systems, broadcast network functions, or telecommunication switching systems.

Equivalent to Bachelor’s degree AND two (2) years full time professional experience providing support in an enterprise environment is preferred. Additional relevant experience can be substituted for equivalent education on a year for year basis.

Preferred Qualifications:

Higher Education Experience

Experience supporting Research Computing

Experience with CBRS or private LTE networks

Alcatel, Aruba, and/or Palo Alto Networks experience

Experience with VOIP systems
