Job Summary:

The Central Office Technician is primarily responsible for maintaining a variety of electrical and optical equipment in telecommunication offices, as well as the installation and replacement of this equipment.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Communicate and resolve any service impacts to the network due to installation or site maintenance activities
  • Ensure Network outages are reported to the NNOC

  • Update and maintain records within BCE Global spares tool, Repair & Return Process, and inventory.

  • Conduct general fire safety inspections

  • Ensure that monthly and quarterly routines are completed

  • Operate and maintain diesel generating units; keeping records of fuel use, power production and general operation conditions

  • OTDR fiber testing when requested for new installs as well as troubleshooting


Qualifications:

  • Five to eight years of experience as a Central Office Technician or a Data Center Technician
  • Knowledge of DC plant in a telecommunications setting
  • Knowledge of generators
  • Ability to sue and operate an OTDR as well as create reporting
  • Ability to operate 10G and 100G test sets
  • Ability to use test set to conduct Bit Error Rate Testing (BERT)
