The Dispatch Director manages several functional areas within the public safety department including the dispatch center for medical, security, and law enforcement personnel, records management, and inventory and supply.
Responsibilities include selection, training, directing, monitoring, and evaluating personnel assigned to these areas. This position also develops and implements formal procedures to ensure regulatory compliance and adherence to best practices and industry standards.
Must be available to respond to emergencies 24/7. Must receive Nebraska NCIC telecommunications certification within one year.

Required Additional Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of management and supervisory techniques and procedures; University and Department policies; applicable federal, state, and local statutes; geography and road system of University of Nebraska- Omaha/UNMC/Nebraska Medicine campuses and surrounding areas; local, state, and federal law enforcement communications systems operations; inventory and supply management; and records management.

Skill in supervising and training others; developing policies and procedures; providing customer service; problem solving; operation of radio and communications equipment; operation of standard office equipment including computers and Microsoft Office products. Skill in dealing with the public.

Preferred Education:
Bachelor’s degree

Business, Public Administration, Criminal Justice, Leadership, Psychology or related field.

Preferred Experience:
Experience with public safety/police dispatch procedures, computer aided dispatch technology, purchasing, and inventory management processes.

Knowledge of public safety records management, multi-line phone systems, two-way radios, and physical security/alarm systems.

Knowledge of state and local laws and University policies.

Ability to evaluate and resolve complex problems.

Ability to communicate effectively in routine and stressful situations.

Detail oriented and highly organized.

Yes
