Supervisor, Police Telecommunicator

 

Job Summary:

Responsible for supervision of all police telecommunications operators and the day-to-day operations of the communication center.

Job Duties:

Provides close supervision and evaluation of staff performance and provides training of police communications officers.

Develops general and task specific training for Police Communications operators.

Conducts training and oversees assigned trainers.

Performs technical and administrative functions to include validating and monitoring accuracy of all TCIC/NCIC terminal operations, monitors and ensures police radio transmissions comply with FCC policies; and maintains integrity of calls entered into the computer aided dispatch.

Completes monthly and annual activity summaries, establishes police dispatch procedures, monitors all equipment in communication center for proper operation, and conducts troubleshooting as needed.

Researches and coordinates with other criminal justice agencies.

Provides supervision and training of department employees.

Measures and assesses performance and contributes to decisions regarding assignments, schedules, and promotions.

Serves as the primary point of contact for department personnel hiring and termination.

Performs all other duties as assigned.

Education:

High school diploma or GED is required.

Experience:

Four (4) years of experience as a Certified Police Communications Officer, including a minimum of one (1) year in a supervisory capacity is required.

Additional Licenses and Certifications:

TCOLE Intermediate Telecommunications Certification is required.

Supervisory Requirements:

• Has the authority to direct the work of others, hire or fire employees, or provide recommendations as to the hiring, firing, advancement, promotion, or any other change of status of other employees.
