JOB DESCRIPTION
Duties:

  • Produces or revises, using computer assisted drafting applications or by hand, a variety of

technically complex engineering drawings used for electrical equipment layouts, conduit, lighting,

grounding systems, protection, control and telecommunications circuitry, cabinet and pane layouts

and isometric drawings of cabinets; produces a variety of associated graphs, colour drawings,

maps, schematics, wiring diagrams, 3D models and cable schedules; produces detailed drawings

of equipment and assemblies associated with the engineering projects.

  • Performs a variety of technical drafting related functions related to the development of drawings

by ensuring all essential design data has been received, researching other relevant material such

as equipment specifications, related drawings and engineering standards, performing basic

calculations such as determining dimensions, elevations and slopes, checking data for obvious

conflicts or design errors and determining the most appropriate layout of drawings and

presentation of information.

  • Performs a variety of related functions such as calculating quantities of materials and

components from drawings, checking availability of components and materials, writing material

lists; visits work sites to gather information, observe site conditions and/or take measurements

and perform basic survey tasks.

  • Produces wiring diagrams directly from schematic and layout drawings in cases where drawings

are of a routine nature.

  • Checks drawings prepared by other staff or outside consultants to ensure there are no conflicts

or other problems, including translation of drawings produced by other computer assisted drafting

applications.

  • Provides technical direction and guidance to Drafter 1 and performs all the duties of the Drafter 1

job.

  • Performs duties of a minor nature related to the above duties which do not affect the rating of the

job.

Qualifications:

  • Graduation with a diploma in drafting from a government accredited technical institute or

equivalent and related courses in the operation of BC Hydro’s computerized drafting applications.

  • The successful candidate will have approximately 48 months of experience in the drafting

hierarchy.

  • Experience with telecommunications
  • Minor understanding of computer coding logic
  • Experience with AutoCAD Electrical
  • Experience with Substation Design Suite (SDS)

Flexible work model role definitions

Our four role types identify the degree of flexibility an employee could have to work from home

based on the type of work they do. The flexibility for an individual job is up to the manager for

each position and the operational requirements. Employees also have the right to work full-time

from the office if they prefer. All of our roles require at least some in-person time.

IBEW/Field – No option to work from home

Resident – Works primarily (4+ days per week) in the office.

Hybrid – May be able to work from home up to 3 days per week.

Remote – Works from home 4+ days per week
