Mission
We are looking for a Telecommunications Technologist who wants to be challenged and is ready to join a dynamic team that is rapidly expanding in a well-established, employee-owned, multidisciplinary, consulting engineering firm. This position can be based in proximity to our offices in Vancouver or Kelowna, British Columbia. The Technologist’s mission is to provide design specifications, drawings, and perform field data collection work for telecommunication and electric utility infrastructure (poles, wires, conduits, and cable) in accordance with engineering principles, guidelines, policies, and safety standards.
Primary Responsibilities
- Develop detailed design deliverables for telecommunication systems including construction drawings and material estimates for copper and fibre optic networks
- Perform site visits across British Columbia to validate scope requirements, determine existing assets condition, and prepare site survey reports
- Working closely with CIMA+’s and the client’s staff and resources is an integral part of success in this position
- Utilize client-based Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and other records for data collection during the design process; produce bill of material and enter material acquisition requests in the GIS
- Ensure design work conforms to all applicable national codes and client standards
- Communicate effectively in both verbal and written form with the CIMA+ team, clients, and other agencies
- Prepare calculations, drawings, construction and work packages, and other project base deliverables
Profile
- Registered, or eligible for registration with British Columbia Applied Science Technologists & Technicians (ASTTBC)
- Experience designing telecommunication outside plant network or underground duct and conduit systems, is a strong asset
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English is required
- Excellent problem solving, multitasking skills and ability to work independently
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and work under pressure
- Client focused and attention to detail, eager to learn, self-motivated
- Proficiency in AutoCAD is required and familiarity with other engineering design software’s such as PLS Pole, SpidaCalc (an asset )
- Working knowledge of a GIS (Graphical Information System), such as SpatialNet, ArcFM, or similar (an asset)
- Possess a valid British Columbia Class 5 driving license
- Knowledge of safety and environmental policies and regulations (an asset)
