UnitedHealthcare Medicare & Retirement is seeking an Application Architect with a passion for programming and architecture to help drive change for the health insurance consumer.

Primary Responsibilities:
- Providing high level solutions and designs for business initiatives
- Understanding requirements, solution, impacts and options, and be able to properly articulate this to our internal IT teams, application and business partners
- Role holds ownership of analyzing, coordinating, mentoring team members on all matters internal and external to the project (data, process strategy, dependencies)
- Ability to bridge the gap between Business, Development and Enterprise Architecture teams
- Providing technical guidance, support and recommendations
- Providing coding and development standards, best practices and enforcing team principles and guidelines
- Some contributions to hands on development
Day to Day Activities:
- Role should think like a Solution Lead, System Analyst, Data Analyst and Developer
- Collaborate with the Enterprise Architect or SME to understand the existing process/workflow in detail
- Work with Business/Systems Analysts to understand the Business requirements, and create the corresponding blueprint for implementing the solution or the components of a new system
- Detailed analysis on the System, Data and impacted API’s
- Review, understand and make decisions on Provider Data and API sufficiency, Data Mapping and Transformation
- Propose high level solution to the problem – i.e. define scope, context, identify data sources, providing services, reference-data, define high-level domain model etc.
- Define problem clearly with current state and future state model
- Act as SME for IT team regarding functional requirements
- Holds ownership on analyzing all dependencies/necessities which are external to the project (for example providers data, providers API availability and provider data sufficiency details or data mapping, coordination etc.)
- Bring enterprise software knowledge and suggest already existing solutions, services, frameworks, or libraries

Required Qualifications:
- Undergraduate degree or equivalent experience
- 8+ years or more of strong hands-on experience with Java Enterprise Edition (Java/J2EE) and web technologies
- 8+ years of technical experience with application integration: SOA, Web Services, RESTful, Message Queue solutions using SOAP, JSON, XML, Java/ J2ee
- 3+ years of experience in an architecture role, designing end-to-end solutions across the complete system development lifecycle
- Experience designing and contributing to an event-driven architecture
- Experience in implementing containerized and scalable software based on microservices
- Demonstrated experience with software design and architecture patterns
- Knowledge with a variety of modern open-source technologies (Kafka, Kubernetes)
- Knowledge of web security, application security, web services security, common vulnerability remediation
- Solid knowledge in OO Design Principles, core OOPS, JEE Design patterns as well as their implementation in real world applications
- Solid knowledge of JSON
- Demonstrated understanding of software quality engineering principles
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in Oracle Apex
- Experience in healthcare or experience working with sensitive data
- Demonstrated experience working within Agile environments: Scrum or Kanban
- Demonstrated ability to work in a highly technical environment with an attention to detail
- Demonstrated organizational and leadership skills
- Demonstrated ability to communicate and present to people at all levels across the enterprise

Colorado, Connecticut or Nevada Residents Only: The salary range for Colorado residents is $82,100 to $146,900. The salary range for Connecticut / Nevada residents is $90,500 to $161,600. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, UnitedHealth Group offers benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements).
