OSP Laborer

The OSP laborer is responsible for performing various tasks to aid daily operations at a construction site. They will load and unload tools or raw materials, or pieces of equipment and digging or filling in pits throughout the construction process.

Responsibilities

  • Trench, place duct, pull cable, and direct bury main-line and drops
  • Locate & verify all utilities before construction
  • Perform restoration back to existing conditions
  • At a minimum, the position requires a good working knowledge of telecommunications construction, familiarity with Horizontal Directional Drills and aerial buck trucks, ability to use cable placement equipment and tools, ability to identify and troubleshoot problems
  • Individuals must be able to read prints and have knowledge of the aerial/underground process

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent preferred
  • Strong work ethic
  • Entry level skillset with less than 3 years experience
  • Must have good communication skills and a positive attitude
  • Valid US driver’s license
  • Able to work in a fast-paced environment
  • The ability to work safely, with or without supervision
  • Ability to operate equipment, including, but not limited to directional drills, bucket trucks, locating systems, trencher, backhoe, excavators

Physical Demands and Work Environment

This job operates in a field environment. This role routinely requires extended periods of bending, squatting, climbing, kneeling, pushing, pulling, lifting, lifting in awkward positions, standing, and twisting. Also, working in inclement weather conditions, such as extreme heat, extreme cold, rain, ice, snow, and wind.

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. This position is physically active, with lifting required. Must be able to bend and lift and carry up to 50 pounds.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to outside weather conditions. The employee is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; moving mechanical parts; high, precarious places; and fumes or airborne particles. The employee is occasionally exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals and risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually very loud.
