At BMW, our engineers re-write automotive history each and every day. But it takes creative problem-solvers with unerring vision and expert know-how to continuously push the boundaries of what’s possible at the cutting-edge of future mobility.

As central competence team for all E/E scopes at BMW M Motorsport, we are responsible for development, validation and release across all development phases in the works and customer sport programs. Our field of responsibility in the mechatronic complete system includes both the hardware-specific scopes of the vehicle and engine electrics and the provision of associated software solutions, on-car/off-car measuring technology and associated telemetry tool chain, including regular support for international test and race events.

What awaits you?

  • With your explicit and broad-based technical E/E motorsport expertise, you undertake the task of systems engineer geared toward the LMDh World Endurance Championship in a highly dynamic and diversified work environment at BMW M Motorsport.
  • The focus of your activities lies in ensuring E/E system robustness and performance, covering both hardware-oriented scopes such as sensor systems/actuator systems and software-based system functions including associated application.
  • After successful conclusion of the 2023 test series, you will take part in all WEC race meets from 2024 onward.
  • You coordinate the vehicle preparation of electrical scopes (ECU, data logger, sensor system, CAN bus, etc.) jointly with the Team Systems Engineer.
  • You monitor the vehicle system during testing and throughout racing, using appropriate telemetry and logging systems.
  • The elaboration, further development and validation of system and software functions with internal and external development partners also belong to your remit.
  • You work out hardware solutions in the wiring harness and you ensure smooth operation in testing and racing, if necessary with ad-hoc repair instructions.
  • In relation to all electrical scopes, you ensure speedy and focused communication about test points and irregularities between the field team and the specialists at BMW M Motorsport and you conscientiously document all these matters.

What should you bring along?

  • A degree in mechanical engineering, telecommunications, electrical engineering, automotive engineering, mechatronics or a comparable qualification.
  • Several years’ career experience in the E/E environment, primarily in on-board electrical systems and control units of principal motorsport system suppliers (Bosch, Cosworth, Magneti-Marelli, etc.).
  • Experience in military-standard sensor systems, physical on-board electrical system, mobile measured-data acquisition and processing.
  • Several years’ experience in high-ranking motorsport (Formula 1, LMP, DTM, GT3 or comparable).
  • Certification as qualified electrician with > 3 years’ experience in high-voltage systems is desirable.
  • Huge enthusiasm for motorsport and the associated workstyle.
  • Car driving license essential.
  • Willingness to undertake work-related travel nationally and internationally (approx. 15 – 25 weeks / year).
  • Negotiations fluency in English and a good command of German.
