Job Description for Telecommunications Technician

ThinkBig Networks has a direct hire opportunity available working as a telecommunications technician with a fiber optic network. Opportunities are in Harford County. This role would have you working to complete Fiber to the Home projects in rural, unserved areas. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

• Read and interpret fiber map in order to locate and mark under-ground facilities within prescribed accuracy limits.
• Use lap-top computer or other devices to receive, document and close out excavation notices.
• Perform light excavation with a shovel, to expose buried utilities when necessary.
• Provide accurate documentation and or sketches related to all locates completed.
• Receive and respond to excavation notices during normal and after hours in accordance with established time requirements.
• Operate company vehicles in a safe manner and maintain a professional appearance
• Conduct site walks of subscribers’ properties to discuss the desired path of fiber from our backbone infrastructure to their home.
• Perform interior customer installation of fiber optic cable and configure optical network terminal for residential and commercial customers.
• Represent company in daily communication with subcontractors on construction production reports and material distribution.

Requirements:

• High School Diploma, GED equivalent, relevant work experience, or a combination of education and work experience preferred.
• Valid State driver’s license (cannot be considered Provisional), including an MVR record that is deemed acceptable by the company.
• Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check.
• Upon employment, will be subject to random drug testing in compliance with federal, state and company guidelines.
• Equivalent experience with internet/fiber installations.
• Experience using machinery and hand tools.
• Punctual with consistent attendance.
• Normal hours with some weekend hours.
• Ability to work with others and independently.
• Previous experience with in-home customer installations preferred.
• General knowledge about fiber optic construction processes and procedures not required but preferred.’
