Reporting to the Manager, IT Infrastructure, the incumbent is responsible for managing the server (Linux and Windows), storage and telecom infrastructure deployed in two physical data centres and Microsoft Azure – including over 15,000 network ports, more than 460 servers, 3,000+ voice mailboxes and email accounts for all staff and students. The incumbent ensures that access to all critical systems is maintained per college IT Security policies through the state-of-the-art Privileged Access Management solutions. The incumbent also serves as the lead subject matter expert for the O365 environment, including licensing, Power BI, Power Apps, SharePoint Online, email and Microsoft Teams. Specific duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Providing consultation and support to IT leadership, faculty and administration in the planning, development and implementation of Georgian’s information technology strategy
  • Working closely with academic and administrative management to plan server, storage and cloud infrastructure to support academic and administrative goals
  • Supporting SIP based/ Cloud designed calling system through Microsoft Teams telephony
  • Ensuring a robust and reliable technology infrastructure through proactive planning, analysis, evaluation and benchmarking of server and computing capacity, maintenance and upgrade requirements, performance and costs
  • Leading the server and computing planning process to determine systems capacity, server and cloud infrastructure
  • Preparing systems business cases including requirements, functionality, impacts and cost/benefits
  • Proactively working with academic and administrative managers acquiring technology to ensure system components are fully compatible and can integrate with overall IT architecture
  • Providing leadership in the proactive management (including monitoring, reporting and communications) of the college’s IT Server, Storage and Telecom infrastructure, including mission critical systems/applications, corporate computing facilities, servers, operating systems, system backup and security systems to provide a reliable and robust computing network across the College
  • Providing management and key user groups with statistics and information about the current operating environment and making suggestions and recommendations for system upgrades
  • Researching new trends in computing in order to be able to provide state-of-the-art recommendations regarding the technical architecture for the college’s strategic information technology plan
  • Planning server, storage and backup systems upgrades and implementations in a timely and responsive manner to ensure the college’s operational requirements and academic business cycles are met
  • Providing procurement and tendering specifications for IT products and services
  • Managing Systems Administrators by determining work priorities, assigning responsibilities and monitoring progress. Providing orientation, training, coaching and guidance to staff, conducting performance reviews and developing training plans
  • Developing, fostering and managing effective relationships and partnerships with contractors, vendors, local public sector organizations and other colleges and academic institutions to facilitate cooperative, collaborative and innovative approaches to business and IT infrastructure planning and investment
  • Managing the college’s service and support contracts with third-party vendors supplying servers, storage, backup hardware and Operating Systems

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Successfully completed a 4-year postsecondary degree in a computer related area and continued education in current information technology and information management science
  • A minimum of seven years experience in a similar position
  • Experience with the following:
    • Systems Administration (Linux and Windows)
    • Server and email management
  • Experience with the following would be assets:
    • O365 – Exchange Online, SharePoint, email, Power BI, Azure AD
    • Telecommunication networking
    • Cloud architectural planning
    • Messaging directory services such as LDAP
    • Internet technologies and protocols
  • Certifications in one or more of the following (or similar) are considered assets:
    • MCSE
    • Azure Certified Architect
    • RHCE – Red Hat Certified Engineer
  • Management leadership skills
  • Project management experience
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
