Senior Network (& Systems) Engineer

  • The senior network engineer supports the firm’s critical core network and remote access systems at the senior level. Primarily technical position involving high level of critical thinking and working autonomously.
  • Designs, configures, implements, troubleshoots, optimizes, and documents multi-vendor LAN/WAN topologies utilizing OSPF, BGP, EIGRP, SD-WAN, Software Defined Networking (NSX), microsegmentation and security (NSX, ISE, etc.), Virtual Local Area Networks (VLAN), routers (Cisco), switches (multi-vendor), wireless networks (Cisco WLCs), WAN optimization (Riverbed), Network Address Translation (NAT/PAT), Load Balancers (F5), Firewalls (Palo/Meraki/Cisco), and Virtual Private Networks (VPN).
  • Tests for known vulnerabilities. Designs and reviews data center, closet and floor diagrams. Determines cabling, power, UPS, and rack space requirements for new office builds and remodels. Works with vendors to order and provision telecom circuits.
  • Installs, configures, monitors, and maintains the network operating system and network devices.
  • Responsible for stability, availability, and reliability of equipment (routers, switches, network devices, etc.) under their control. Ensures that all systems for which they are responsible operate at peak efficiency and meet established firm security guidelines.
  • Participates in testing of new hardware and software under guidance of Lead Engineer. Recommends any improvements to equipment (routers, switches, network devices, etc.) to supervisor. Performs audits on the network equipment with minimal notice.
  • Maintains applicable written procedures and documentation of network functions.
  • Coordinates scheduling of maintenance activities with Lead Engineer and other management.
  • May be required to travel to firm office and/or trial site locations including international destinations (10-25% travel).
  • Keeps supervisor abreast of current issues and potential problems as they develop; seeks advice as needed.
  • Works, occasionally, at different shifts outside of stated regular office hours. Including periodicallybeing on call 24 hours a day to provideafter-hours support. While on-call remains in a position to respond to calls, receive help calls, and to answer them quickly, thoroughly, and in a professional manner.
  • Participates in the firm’s data disaster recovery program, which may require travel with minimal notice.
  • Attends training sessions concerning skill development; travels to these sessions as required.
  • May assist in guiding the work of junior level engineers.

Requirements:

Four years related experience; Associate’s degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school in computer science or a related discipline; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience with packet capture and analysis (Wireshark, Fiddler, etc.), Mobile Device Management (Airwatch, InTune), Web Application Firewall, IPS/IDS, and Cisco Call Manager is preferred. The following certifications are preferred, but not required:
CCNA – Cisco Certified Network Associate
CCNP – Cisco Certified Network Professional
VCP6-NV – VMware Certified Professional 6 – Network Virtualization
VCIX-NV – VMware Certified Implementation Expert – Network Virtualization
