NETWORK OPERATIONS SPECIALIST

WHAT YOU’LL DO

The Network Operations Specialist is responsible for providing support to all internal departments in need of escalated troubleshooting with regards to the Residential network, both data and voice. This support includes assisting with maintenance and configuration of the Residential network and monitoring alarms, diagnosing cause, and assisting with final resolution. The Specialist will also assist with processes, procedures, auditing, and documentation related to the Residential network.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Monitoring network health, identifying events and opportunities for optimization (45%)
• Assisting other departments with troubleshooting (15%)
• Configuring the Residential network (10%)
• Performing configuration on Metaswitch (10%)
• Completing projects and special projects (10%)
• Maintaining records, documentation, audits, and Method of Procedure (MOP) (10%)

TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS

• Work is typically completed indoors in a quiet/low noise, climate-controlled office environment (office, meeting room, or similar) with an occasional need to work indoors in a non-temperature-controlled environment and outdoors in an enclosed vehicle or temporary shelter
• Typically works 40 hours per week; may work overtime, evenings, and/or weekends as needed to meet critical deadlines or respond to problems

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

• Continuous fingering, handling, feeling, talking, and hearing
• Often sitting, walking, and close, distance, color, and depth vision
• Sometimes standing, bending, squatting, climbing, kneeling, twisting, reaching at/below shoulder level, pulling, and lifting up to 15 pounds
• Rarely reaching above shoulder level and lifting up to and over 45 pounds

WHAT YOU NEED

• College-level coursework in a related technical area is strongly preferred. CompTIA certifications such as A+ and Net+ are preferred
• Practical experience configuring network devices; Cisco preferred, Calix desirable
• High level of decision-making skills, independent thinker
• Experience configuring services within a Linux and/or Windows environment
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills; demonstrated ability to explain technical information to non-technical individuals
• Knowledge in VoIP technologies (Metaswitch a plus)
• Experience with network equipment installation and cabling procedures
• Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite required
• Good project management skills and ability to work to deadlines
• Must possess an active vehicle driver’s license
