TOWER TECHNICIAN

A Tower Technician performs various aspects of tower construction, maintenance, and troubleshooting. Responsible for climbing, installation, inspection and maintenance services for wireless radio and antenna systems on towers, rooftops, and other elevated structures in conjunction with the Crew Supervisor and Tower Technician(s).

A Tower Technician occasionally performs and/or supervises ground-based civil scopes when applicable in support of radio systems cabling, grounding, interconnects and/or conduits.

Tower Technicians are adventurers and road warriors and may be traveling Monday through Friday. Entry level opportunities available for candidates willing to learn.

These duties can be performed with or without accommodation:

  • Installs, maintains, repairs, removes, or retrofits antenna systems equipment and power systems (e.g., antennas, microwave dishes, feed lines, ice shields, etc.) to maintain operational communications throughout the wireless network using safety equipment and hand, power, and specialty tools.
  • Designs and fabricates tower hardware and accessories to maintain, repair, and retrofit antenna systems equipment in order to support communications system operation using fixed and portable power tools.
  • Responsible for proper rigging of load line to tower and capstan operations.
  • Responsible for tool inventory and upkeep daily on the job site.
  • Structures wiring on all coaxial and wired cables as needed at job sites.
  • Adheres to safety and quality control requirements at all times.
  • Communicates effectively with Crew Supervisor, and other Crew members at all times.
  • Assists Crew Supervisor with execution of all manner of site related duties/responsibilities, including Close-out documentation.
  • Assists with training and skill development for less experienced Tower Technicians.
  • Travels to client site as need, approximately 75% travel mostly within the state of New York. Percentage of travel may vary based on client needs.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Previous telecommunications experience, construction experience and/or strong mechanical aptitude is a plus.
  • Authorized Climber & Competent Climber/Rescue certification from an accredited institution that meets the federal standards preferred; if not certified, Council Rock will provide certification training at time of hire.
  • CPR/AED and Certification preferred; if not certified, Council Rock will provide certification training at time of hire.
  • OSHA-10 certification preferred; if not certified, Council Rock will provide certification training at time of hire.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

  • This role is routinely exposed to outdoor work environment year-round.
  • Ability to lift and carry a minimum of 50 pounds independently and up to 90 pounds with assistance, if necessary.
  • This position requires physical dexterity.
  • Ability to climb ladders as well as structures over 150 feet and above.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $23.00 – $28.00 per hour
