Job Detail
The Information Technology (IT) Director monitors and provides oversight for the Information Technology Department strategic planning, staff management, budgeting, development, and resource allocation to ensure effective operation of IT systems, solutions, and strategies to meet the City’s goals and objectives.

This position is graded DR33.
- Directs, leads, oversees, and supports all Information Technology Department operations; facilitates and directs technology infrastructure services, information systems and services, information security, desktop support, telecommunications, radio and electronics, database and software development, Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP), and other enterprise application systems.
- Manages, directs, and coordinates staff to meet strategic objectives; develops goals, identifies objectives and priorities, and assigns tasks and projects.
- Provides coaching, mentoring, and counsel; identifies and determines operational issues and develops technical strategies and new systems; coordinates and leads training opportunities for direct reports as needed.
- Serves as the Technology Liaison between information technology department and other City departments; provides direction for Technology Governance within the organization.
- Reviews and researches current IT trends, recommending appropriate functional and systems improvements; recommends new technologies and strategies to meet the City’s goals and objectives.
- Manages and coordinates internal resources; ensures effective communication is in place between the IT department, other City departments and the City Manager’s office.
- Develops, monitors, and maintains budgets for the department, ensuring proper fiscal management. Identifies resource needs within the department and pursues appropriate funding.
- Oversees, directs, and manages user needs analysis, specifications development, and coordination for the deployment of end user computing technology; facilitates the development of technical solutions and project plans to meet users’ needs.
- Communicates and interacts with City Manager to implement broad Information Technology infrastructure ensuring the needs of the City are met.
Considerable Knowledge of: Principles and practices of administrative management, project management, and directing IT departmental operations; personnel management oversight, direction, and counsel; Information Technology infrastructure and development; principles and practices of managing information technology and systems integration in a government environment; capabilities of computer software, hardware, and operating systems; City organization and Information Technology needs; job related terminology including technical terms; system access and security guidelines; City organization, operations, policies and procedures; applicable state and Federal statutes, rules, codes and regulations.
Ability to: Lead, plan, and direct a multi-faceted IT department; plan, develop, and implement goals and objectives; communicate and liaise with various departments; prioritize multiple tasks, projects, and demands; communicate effectively both verbally and in writing; troubleshoot and implement technical solutions; establish and maintain effective working relations with co-workers and representatives from other local, state, and Federal agencies.
Skills in: Analyzing issues, identifying solutions, and recommending techniques for resolution of issues; interpreting and applying relevant statutes, rules, ordinances, codes, regulations, administrative orders, and other governing regulations; using initiative and independent judgment within established procedural guidelines; evaluating and developing procedures for efficient and cost-effective management of resources; using initiative and independent judgment within established procedural guidelines.
