Position Summary

The Information Technology and Telecommunications Senior Technician is responsible for the maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of college computers and peripherals; supports and works directly with faculty and staff related technology issues. Works under the direction of the Information Technology and Telecommunications Director.

Essential Functions

  • Installs and configures PC/server software packages.
  • Troubleshoots and resolves hardware and software problems.
  • Sets up and configure computers and printers.
  • Log work requests, prioritize work requests, and track problem solutions using helpdesk software.
  • Assists in maintenance, troubleshooting, and changes/additions to network cable plant.
  • Maintains inventory documentation pertinent to network and telecommunication cable locations, software licensing, hardware location, warranties, contracts, repair histories, and equipment status for IT-related Company assets.
  • Sets up user accounts for network access.
  • Manages network storage access rights.
  • Maintains and supports College audio visual systems.
  • Keeps current with technology and makes recommendations for improvement.
  • The incumbent shall perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree or four years’ experience in information technology, computer science, telecommunications, or an equivalent combination of education and/or work experience.
  • Demonstrate effective communication skills and advanced organizational skills.
  • Aptitude and desire to quickly obtain new skills and undertake challenges.
  • Technical Microsoft, Cisco, and/or VMware certifications ideal.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Technical writing skills.
  • High level of knowledge & troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong professional demeanor and dress.
  • Must have a positive can-do attitude and work effectively with little supervision.
  • Advanced computer knowledge, including TCP/IP and networking protocols. Experience with Microsoft Server operating systems, computer imaging software, and antivirus software.
  • Spanish speaking desirable.

  • Grasping: Using fingers and palm on an object.
  • Talking: Especially where one must frequently convey detailed or important instructions or ideas accurately, loudly, or quickly.
  • Average Hearing: Able to hear average or normal conversations and receive ordinary information.
  • Repetitive Motions: Movements frequently and regularly required using the wrists, hands, and/or fingers.
  • Average Visual Abilities: Average, ordinary, visual acuity necessary to prepare or inspect documents or products or operate machinery.
  • Physical Strength: Medium Work; exerting up to 50 lbs. occasionally, and/or up to 20 lbs. frequently, and 10 lbs. constantly.

Additional Information

Working Hours: Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM
