Job Description

Tilson is looking to add an experienced Professional Engineer to grow the wireless engineering and design group. The successful candidate will work in close collaboration with internal and external partners to design, permit and deploy telecommunication infrastructure projects across the country.

This individual should have at least 5-10 years of telecommunication infrastructure design experience with a focus on macro-scale projects, such as rooftop, water tank and tower-based new site builds, raw land tower projects, and existing site modifications. They must have the experience and abilities needed to lead design teams of Drafters, Designers and other Engineers, working in partnership with Project Management to coordinate technical delivery of multiple concurrent projects.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide active technical leadership and expertise within the Wireless and Wireline engineering groups to design and deploy America’s 21st century telecommunication infrastructure
  • Responsible for planning and execution of Engineering scope-of-work on medium-to-large sized Wireless projects, leading engineering and design efforts for multiple teams of Engineers, Designers and Drafters
  • Responsible for reviewing and approving the work done by staff Engineers working under their supervision on several concurrent projects
  • Assign tasks and coordinate workflows within the resourcing provided by department management
  • Assist in preparing resource plans in collaboration with department and project management to achieve schedule, scope and budget objectives
  • Prepares calculations and analysis. Examples include: analysis of antenna supports under gravity and lateral loads, evaluation of existing gravity and lateral load resisting systems in buildings and similar structures, tower structural analysis, and other similar tasks requiring unconventional approaches
  • Perform design tasks in a self-directed manner and as required by adherence to Codes and Standards, special customer requirements, or typical industry standards of care. Examples include: Developing rooftop arrangements and utility pathways, selecting and evaluating structural anchorage systems to suit specific project needs, or reviewing calculations and analysis by subvendor partners.
  • Summarize the results of design and calculation work in drawings, sketches or technical reports
  • Develop, organize and maintain design support materials
  • Develop and document processes and procedures according to the project type, client direction, and the requirements of the local authority having jurisdiction
  • Assist in developing QA/QC procedures for projects in the Wireless engineering group
  • Perform quality checks for work performed in the Wireless engineering group
  • Possess competent and clear written and oral communication skills. Interact with internal and external partners, including local officials, clients, and subcontractors.
  • Assist in development and presentation of training material for the Wireless engineering group.
  • Possess a thorough understanding of the International Building Code (IBC) and National Utility Safety Code (NESC) and their commonly-used reference Standards (ASCE 7, TIA-222, NEC, etc). Identify and follow design requirements stemming from the Building or Utility Code(s) in effect for all project work.

Qualifications:

  • Actively licensed Professional Engineer, with the demonstrated ability to responsibly maintain licensing in multiple jurisdictions and a willingness to pursue licensure in additional jurisdictions as strategically required
  • Proficiency in MS Office suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) and Adobe Acrobat
  • Comfortable with Google Earth, GIS or other mapping applications
  • Possess significant expertise with industry and trade-specific software packages, such as: tnxTower, Risa3D, AutoCAD, or others
  • Ability and willingness to travel as needed for site inspections, client meetings, or for other similar needs
  • Strong analytical problem solving skills
  • B.S. College Degree or equivalent experience
  • Demonstrated commitment to life-long, self-directed, personal and professional educational growth

Desired but not Required:

  • OCALC knowledge and other make ready engineering software
  • OSP Engineering design standards knowledge
  • Exposure to 120V power design in conformance with NEC provisions
  • Small Cell network design experience
