Rush University Medical Center is looking for two Telecom Technicians to help support and assist the Telecommunications team in project based and field based work, maintenance, and support of the Telecom IT Infrastructure. This individual will spend majority of their time at the main Copley location, but will be required at some times to travel to other locations in the greater Aurora area (only 10% of the job). Installation and Maintenance of Operational Systems: Telecommunications Technician would aid in keeping current systems updated and running smoothly, including network switches, power supplies, UPS’s, uplink modules and cable plant. Will be tasked with upgrading systems and components when the need arises. Whether it be the rack and stack of new equipment or working on a pre-existing system, this employee must be up-to-date on the industry standard for installation and maintenance of telecommunications systems Trouble Tickets: Leveraging the existing on site trouble ticket queue, employee must be able to log, report on, update and complete help requests in a timely manner. This employee must be able to determine what equipment is needed and how to solve the issue in a timely manner. Knowledge of fiber cabling and copper cabling a must. Duties Include, but Not Limited to: • Installation and Maintenance of AVAYA and CISCO Desk Phones • Installation of Network Switches, Routers, and UPS’s • Occasional Installation of Racking and Cabinets • Can easily identify the difference between Single mode and Multimode OM1/OM3/OM4 fiber Cabling • Can easily identify the difference between all types of Category Cabling • Repair Wall Jack and Patch Panel Terminations without fault • Test and Troubleshoot Connectivity Issues • Extend and Create Fiber Cross Connects • Properly documents all work to promote maintainability of the network infrastructure and related components. • Completes projects by establishing target dates; monitoring installation and operation. • Ensures operation of equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirement, I.E Battery Replacements, IT Closet Cleanliness Practices, Dust Control, Cable Management, etc.. • Maintains quality service by establishing and enforcing organization standards – ICARE Values • Updates Management of progress on a regular basis including attending weekly team meetings • Maintains professional and technical knowledge through continuous learning by utilizing self-studies or by attending educational workshops or trainings as requested • Maintain a professional appearance and demeanor • Travel to any offsite in the Chicagoland area at any time • Be in the On-Call Rotation • Be available to assist other team members with various requests Skills/Qualifications: Proficient with installation of all network/low voltage cabling Basic Construction experience , I.E. the use of basic hand tools, diagnostic tools, jobsite awareness Ethernet cabling Analog cabling (PBX) Activate Network Jacks (patch panel to network switches) Some network switch IP transport via CAT 6 Multi load and single load fibeExperience in deploying phones, network switches, routers, and UPS’s Must be comfortable talking with customers, including doctors, nurses, department heads and other staff members Must possess good verbal communication skills Healthcare Prior experience a must Good Organizational skills Basic diagnostic skills Customer Service Experience and Ability to meet physical requirements of the positions such as, standing, bending, and lifting for duration of shift Strong computer skills, especially WORD and EXCEL Strong Troubleshooting skills
