Responsibilities
The Aerial Telecommunications Ground Hand is responsible for assisting the Lineman/Foreman with all phases of telephone, CATV, and fiber cable installation.
Basic duties include driving, loading/unloading of equipment, using hand tools, digging near phone poles to locate existing utilities, setting utility poles, pulling a lasher to secure overhead cables, maintaining tools and equipment, and strictly adhering to company safety policies.
A Ground Hand who demonstrates proficiency in his/her work and a desire to advance to Lineman will have the opportunity to learn how to operate a bucket truck, climb utility poles with gaffs/harness, and place cable at an average height of 30ft.
Qualifications
- Able to work outdoors throughout the year in all weather conditions
- Willing to travel throughout the state (primarily Northeast WI) Monday-Friday and be home weekends, if not nightly
- Insurance-acceptable driver’s license. A restriction-free Class A CDL preferred and . HBI has a dedicated CDL trainer that will assist employees in obtaining their Class A CDL after a probationary period; employees who do so will be compensated with a raise of $2.00/hour.
