GENERAL DESCRIPTION
The Office of the Attorney General is a dynamic organization with over 4,000 employees throughout the State of Texas. Performs complex (journey-level) telecommunications work for the Office of the Attorney General (OAG) Child Support (CS) Information Technology (IT) Division, End User Services Team. Work involves installing, operating, diagnosing, and resolving voice, data, digital, wireless, and video telecommunications problems. ESSENTIAL POSITION FUNCTIONS
Performs system moves and changes internally or via remote access and provides technical expertise in system modification. Performs preventive maintenance on telecommunications systems, associated software, and peripheral equipment.
Prepares material requests and time requirements for telecommunications equipment and wiring. Maintains records of system performance and operations.
Investigates and resolves problems concerning the operation of telecommunications systems, communications hardware, and equipment. Monitors the operation of voice, data, or video telecommunications equipment and network control consoles.
Assists in designing new telecommunications systems. Assists in organizing and establishing operating controls and procedures for the telecommunications network. Assists with planning and implementing policies and procedures pertaining to the operation of telecommunications systems and projects.
May provide guidance to others.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Graduation from high school or equivalent
Education: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university; experience in the following (or closely related) fields may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis: electronics or telecommunications installation and maintenance work.
Experience: Two years of full-time experience working in the following (or closely related) fields: electronics or telecommunications installation and maintenance work.
Knowledge of data processing and telecommunications principles, equipment, procedures, terminology, standards, and wiring technologies; network operating systems; and the Federal Communications Commission’s policies and procedures
Skill in the use of telecommunications test equipment, computers and applicable software, and microcomputer or mainframe applications
Skill in handling multiple tasks, prioritizing, and meeting deadlines
Skill in effective oral and written communication
Skill in exercising sound judgment and effective decision making
Ability to install, operate, and test telecommunications equipment; to analyze, diagnose, and resolve telecommunications problems; to interpret technical information; to communicate effectively; and to provide guidance to others
Ability to receive and respond positively to constructive feedback
Ability to work cooperatively with others in a professional office environment
Ability to provide excellent customer service
Ability to work in person at assigned OAG work location, perform all assigned tasks at designated OAG workspace within OAG work location, and perform in-person work with coworkers (e.g., collaborating, training, mentoring) as required. Ability to work remotely as a manager-provided option, depending on work requirements and the needs of the OAG.
Ability to arrange for personal transportation for business-related travel
Ability to work more than 40 hours as needed and in compliance with the FLSA
Ability to lift and relocate 30 lbs.
Ability to travel (including overnight travel) up to 5%
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Experience with state government systems
Experience with Texas Child Support Division
