JOB SUMMARY

The Network Operations Manager function is to support the Tuscaloosa County School System with the day to day operations and support of the district’s Information Technology (IT) networked systems and servers, Local Area and Wide Area Network systems, routers and switches and telecommunication equipment. Position also supports other responsibilities as they pertain to the Information Technology Departments oversight.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Serves as a manager role and assist the Director or Technology with day to day assignments and task for IT Computer Technicians, staff and contracted vendors as it relates to job position duties and responsibilities.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Administers systems and servers related to district LAN and WAN (e.g. email systems, accounts, workstation ID, IP assignments, classroom computers, security, antivirus, spyware, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring availability of services to authorized users.
  • Assist the Director of Technology with the designs of the network infrastructure (physical and virtual) for the purpose of ensuring effective and efficient networking systems.
  • Maintains network operations and software applications (e.g. servers (file, print, application, WEB, database, proxy, etc.), operating systems, district wide server backup, routine maintenance programs, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring efficient operations.
  • Manages servers and network resources including network applications for the purpose of delivering services in compliance with established guidelines and/or objectives.
  • Manages day to day operations of district firewalls, IT security systems and filtering services.
  • Maintains hardware and software operations for VoIP communications, district WiFi, physical security access and camera systems.
  • Participates in a variety of planning and development activities, including district wide committees for the purpose of creating short and long range plans for support to the district.
  • Prepares written materials (e.g. procedures, system level documentation, reports, memos, letters, etc.) for the purpose of documenting activities, providing written reference, and/or conveying information.
  • Recommends equipment, supplies and materials for the purpose of acquiring required items and completing jobs efficiently.
  • Researches trends, products, equipment, tests, etc. for the purpose of recommending procedures and/or purchases to the Director of Technology.
  • Responds to emergency situations as needed for the purpose of resolving immediate concerns.
  • Responds to inquiries from a variety of sources (e.g. staff, administrators, school site personnel, outside vendors and service providers, etc.) for the purpose of providing technical assistance and support.
  • Train other District staff (primarily within the technology area) for the purpose of ensuring their ability to use new and/or existing operating systems and application software.
  • Works directly with IT Data Manager and their responsibilities as it relates to data collection, directory integration, database management and other services as per the district’s IT operations.
  • Execute all other task and responsibilities as assigned by the Director of Technology,

Superintendent and/or the Deputy Superintendent.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE o College Degree or High school diploma or GED. o Minimum of two years job experience in relation to this position. o Prefer formal technical training experience, A+ certification, MSCE, Novell CNA/CNE or CISCO certification. Documented field experience of three (3) or more years performing duties and responsibilities is acceptable in lieu of certifications. o Experience with the configuration and operations of local area networks, servers, network adapters, hubs, switches and routers is required. o Experience with the operations of Wide Area Networks, routers, DHCP servers,

TCP/IP and other protocols, Fiber, Metro-Area Ethernet, ASE, TSU/DSU communication devices is required. o Extensive knowledge of Internet applications, database applications, HTML and programming is preferred. o Experience with office automation applications, such as: Email, Microsoft Office andApple products or similar software is preferred. o Prefer experience with Barracuda Network Devices, Cisco, Microsoft Server,Exchange, VM-Ware, Cisco Call Manager or other VoIP. o Applicant must have experience with IT project management and general construction knowledge. LANGUAGE SKILLSFluency in written and spoken English is essential. Organized thought processes, polite and respectful of others, adapts presentations to the audience.

  • PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The job functions require the following physical demands: Significant lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling; some stooping, kneeling, crouching and/or crawling. The ability to work on a ladder or overhead. Operating a motor vehicle and hand power tools is required.

  • TRANSPORTATION

The job requires that you must provide reliable personal transportation to work sites and meet all Federal, State or Local laws concerning vehicle registration and insurance requirements. Agree to all applicable Tuscaloosa County Board ofEducation employee policies and travel expense reimbursements procedures. WORK ENVIRONMENTWorks with little direction and supervision, timely completion of projects, makes time for unplanned assignments, adapts to changing priorities. Work will be completed in several different work areas which may include, but not limited to, loud noises, and/or extremes of heat or cold.PROFESSIONAL CONDUCTEmployee acknowledges that he/she is required to maintain a high standard of professional conduct.
