JOB DESCRIPTION & DUTY STATEMENT

POSITION: Behavioral Health Technician

STATUS: Full-Time/Non-Exempt

REPORTS TO: Operations Manager

DESCRIPTION SUMMARY
The Behavioral Health Technician (BHT) helps to provide a safe, supportive, and caring environment that promotes health, healing, and encouragement for clients to build a foundation in their recovery. This position is expected to work as a collaborative team member, providing support to other departments at San Diego
Detox, LLC. with regard to the provision of client care and maintaining a therapeutic environment. The Behavioral Health Technician has knowledge of 12-Step recovery and is culturally sensitive toward others. This employee is knowledgeable of the treatment process and is tactful, respectful, compassionate, and understanding when responding to issues displayed by members of the SUD population. This position must perform operational and administrative tasks under the direction and supervision of the Operations Manager.

QUALIFICATIONS
1. Current CPR & First-Aid Certificate, renewed every two years
2. Current TB Clearance (Negative PPD Skin test), renewed annually
3. COVID-19 Vaccination (Fully vaccinated California state standard for healthcare personnel
4. Valid Driver’s License in the state of California with <2 points on driving record

(must be approved as “insurable” by organization’s automobile/liability insurance provider)

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
● Supervise, manage, & assist clients by enforcing program rules, Client Rights, and always performing job functions in compliance with the Program Code of Conduct.
● Communicate effectively with others in a treatment setting; develop rapport with clients and work collaboratively with staff members of different departments.
● Monitor and report client behavior at all times; document in designated area in EMR system.
● Maintain knowledge of safety and infection control, including drills and locations of fire extinguishers, exit routes, evacuation procedures, and first-aid kits.
● Facilitate client urinalysis, including direct observation, specimen collection, reviewing and reporting POC results lab analysis, documentation, and packaging for lab analysis.

● Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with the Clinical Care team and
Direct Care team (medical personnel).

● Facilitate all client transportation to and from facility; e.g., as necessary for admissions, discharges, transfers offsite for recovery activities, or individual appointments, as scheduled.

● Regularly perform client “rounds” at predetermined time intervals; making contact with and/or visually checking each client’s location within the facility at any given time to confirm the health and wellbeing of all clients on site at San Diego Detox, LLC. and documenting findings in EMR system. e.g., “Q-15s” (visual check every 15 minutes) and
“Q-30s” (visual check every 30 minutes), etc.

● Document all observed occurrences in shift notes and upload necessary documentation to maintain accurate record of client contact in the EMR system.

● Perform client intake property searches to ensure a safe and secure environment is maintained; catalog valuables and locate/dispose of contraband per company protocol.

● Refer clients to the clinical treatment team for any psychological/emotional issues, and to the HCP and/or Direct Care team for any health compliant or medication related issues.

● Responsible for vehicle upkeep, daily visual check, vehicle safety inspections, vehicle drive logs and Vehicle Safety Binder. Report vehicle observations to the Operations
Director.

● Immediately report critical incidents, behavioral incidents, safety risks/hazards, and medication errors to the Operations Director and detail events on an Incident/Event
Report.

● Perform Routine enhanced cleaning at the facility on a daily basis, as outlined in the
COVID- 19 Control and Infection Control Plans.

● Additional duties may be required if deemed necessary by the Operations Manager.

REQUIRED COMPETENCIES

OPERATIONAL COMPETENCIES

DRIVING/TRANSPORTATION
Maintain an active and unrestricted driver’s license for the state of California; practice safe driving at all times by engaging in defensive driving; adhere to the rules of the road at all times; maintain insurable status/minimal points on record.

WAIVED TESTING/URINALYSIS
Effectively perform Waived Testing/urinalysis drug screening; carry out procedures with strict adherence to the facility’s specified Waived Testing &
Urinalysis protocol i.e. urine specimen collection, POC results review, documenting observations in client charts, properly labeling, preparing, packaging, and sending urine sample for laboratory

PROPER USE OF PPE & SUPPLIES
Effectively utilize proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) on a daily basis to carry out routine tasks; develop & maintain awareness of the available, required PPE provided by the facility, know where PPE is stored in the facility; familiarity with HAZMAT Program, reference & make adjustments to the chemical inventory as necessary; refer to MSDS Binder for specific instruction on PPE and proper use prior to handling/using a chemical; has ability to utilize Biohazard spill kit

Program Code of Conduct; use of discretion with regard to client personal and protected information; maintaining adherence to HIPAA, 42 CFR Part 2 confidentiality laws at all times; remain sensitive to cultural differences and issues specific to SUD population; refrain from engagement in dual relationships with clients

DE-ESCALATION & CRISIS INTERVENTION
Maintain a high degree of situational awareness, demonstrating the ability to quickly respond in situations of emergency & crises; ability to respond effectively in hostile situations; operate in such a way knowledge of and ability to perform techniques to de-escalate hostile or escalated individuals when necessary; has knowledge of verbal de-escalation techniques
