Participates in an on-call rotation for 24×7.
Aside from standard office conditions, this position requires occasional on-site work on or in construction sites, roofs, basements, steam tunnels, manholes, in-ceiling areas and general outside areas subject to various weather conditions.

Job Summary The Unified Communications Engineer position will be responsible for assisting in the implementation, maintenance, and support relating to the University Cloud environment and on-premises virtual infrastructure. The position will assist in the general production support and maintenance, environment optimization, and monitoring of various functional areas for SLA/billing/reporting metrics. Furthermore, the position will also be responsible for providing support to the Infrastructure and Operations teams.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Conduct functional and connectivity testing to ensure continuing operability.
  • Comply with organization systems administration standard operating procedures.
  • Monitor and maintain system/server configuration.
  • Maintain baseline system security according to organizational policies.
  • Perform repairs on faulty telephone device/system/server. Install, update, and troubleshoot telephone hardware and software.
  • Manage accounts, network rights, and access to systems and equipment.
  • Provide ongoing optimization and problem-solving support.
  • Diagnose faulty system/telephone hardware. Perform other duties assigned.

Required Qualifications Education Level:

  • Five (5) years of recent full-time Telecommunications experience or equivalent combination of work experience and education.

Years of Experience:

  • Five (5) years of recent full-time System Administration experience or equivalent combination of work experience and education.

Knowledge, skills and abilities:

  • Ability to accurately define incidents, problems, and events in the trouble ticketing system.
  • Ability to monitor measures or indicators of system performance and availability.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with others.
  • Ability to function effectively in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to operate common network tools (e.g., ping, traceroute, nslookup).
  • Knowledge of computer networking concepts and protocols, and network security methodologies.
  • Knowledge of measures or indicators of system performance and availability.
  • Knowledge of server and client operating systems.
  • Knowledge of systems administration concepts.
  • Skill in interfacing with customers.
  • Skill in troubleshooting failed system components (i.e., telephones)
  • Skill in identifying and anticipating system/server performance, availability, capacity, or configuration problems.
  • Skill in conducting system/server planning, management, and maintenance.
  • Skill in correcting physical and technical problems that impact system/server performance.
  • Skill in installing system and component upgrades. (i.e., servers, appliances, network devices).
  • Skill in monitoring and optimizing system/server performance.
  • Skill in recovering failed systems/servers. (e.g., recovery software, failover clusters, replication, etc.).
  • Skill in operating system administration. (e.g., account maintenance, data backups, maintain system performance, install and configure new hardware/software).
  • Ability to work with limited supervision.
  • Ability to be an independent thinker.

  • Advanced degree in information technology, Telecommunications or related filed.
  • Certifications addressing or Microsoft 365 Teams Administrator Associate, common types of attacks, contingency planning, DNS, firewalls, ICMP, incident handling fundamentals, network fundamentals, risk management, securing server services, TCP, UDP, virtual private networks.
