ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY
Internews is looking for a Digital Security Officer for the “USAID Strengthening Civil Society and Media Systems Activity (Sawt)”. The Digital Security Officer will consult and assist partners on digital safety challenges, design and provide needs-based digital safety training and assistance to media outlets and civil society organizations (CSOs) in Jordan, develop digital safety training materials and equip different actors with the needed protocols and tools to avoid cyber-attacks and other digital threats, ensuring digital resilience among Sawt grantees and beneficiaries.

This role will be based in Amman, Jordan.
This is a limited-duration position with an expected end date in March 2027.

DAY-TO-DAY TASKS will include:
- Conduct threat analysis, digital capacity and needs assessment to develop tailored digital security support and training plans for partner organizations.
- Develop digital safety training materials and guidance documents.
- Design up to date responses to common threats.
- Design and deliver tailored digital security trainings in person and online.
- Identify localized solutions and strategies to strengthen partner resilience to digital security threats.
- Provide support in administration of and troubleshooting for partner websites (including many built in WordPress, Drupal, and other prominent open-source CMS)
- Train partners on secure use of online publishing platforms and social media privacy best practices.
- Provide one-on-one mentoring and direct technical support on a needs-basis.
- Support partner organizations in the use of digital collaboration tools, helping benchmark and select tools, set policies for efficient, secure, and safe use, ensure the organization develops the capacity to manage the system even beyond the period of support with Internews.
- Any other related duties assigned by the supervisor to ensure program success.

QUALIFICATIONS WE’RE LOOKING FOR:
- University degree in information technology, computer science, or any other relevant field of study or equivalent lived/professional experience.
- Minimum five years of prior relevant experience desirable.
- Expertise in information security, secure communication, privacy and data protection and organizational security, in particular, in closed and closing spaces.
- Strong knowledge of Jordanian ICT context and operating environment; strong knowledge of current regional and global digital security trends and threats.
- Proven ability to design and implement impactful digital safety support mechanisms for media and civil society actors, including trainings, organizational assessments, curricula development.
- Ability to provide time-sensitive helpdesk support for IT emergency situations as well as breaking down complex technology issues for non-tech savvy participants into easy-to-follow guidelines in plain language.
- Ability to provide support remotely, working with those who may have technical difficulties.
- Experience in designing and delivering tailored digital security training and support in person and online.

- In-depth understanding of digital safety and information security risks and best practices.
- Experience in creating documented how-to lessons and resources.
- Patience, and excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
- Proven capacity to build and maintain trust and collaboration over extended periods of time.
- Fluency in Arabic; strong command of spoken and written English.
Preferred

- Managing domain records.
- Some web development and DevOps experience.
- Managing hosting environment for WordPress and other php website installations and migration.
- Comfortable editing HTML, CSS, and Markdown.
- A solid understanding of information security and internet’s building blocks: DNS, SSL, IP, etc.
- Using anti-DDOS services and other attack-mitigation technologies (Cloudflare, Deflect, etc.).
- Experience in organizational security assessments (SAFETAG or other frameworks) is advantageous; and
- Able to plan, create and simulate penetration methods, scripts, and tests.
- Helping partners better access, understand and use metrics tools such as Google Analytics, Facebook page insights and so on
