Functional Responsibilities

Within delegated authority, the ICT Senior Officer (Geospatial Information Officer – Image Analyst) will be responsible for the following duties:

1. Analysis

  • Process, analyze, and interpret aerial/satellite imagery (multispectral, thermal, and radar) for image intelligence applications.
  • Perform time-series analysis and detect changes in areas of interest (AOIs)
  • Undertake rigorous spatial and terrain analysis for geospatial intelligence applications.
  • Analyze data from multiple sources, such as internal memos and reports, open-source intelligence, and others.

2. Innovation

  • Develop innovative geospatial/image analysis techniques and document workflows and processes.
  • Extract features of interest from high-resolution imagery.

3. Management and Coordination

  • Lead technical teams and manage projects using proved project manage methodology.
  • Liaise with clients to understand and articulate short- and medium-term requirements.

4. Quality Control

  • Generate comprehensive analytical reports, including quality visuals/products and current/reliable information for decision-making at various levels.
  • Assist in peer-review and quality control of analytics products prepared by other colleagues.

**5. Performs other duties as may be reasonably required and in line with the incumbent’s scope of services above.

Impact of results**

The result of work of the ICT Senior Officer (Geospatial Information Officer – Image Analyst) impacts directly on delivery of intelligence services in response to emergencies and to support field missions’ peace operations, as well as safety and security of personnel and assets. It will also ensure proper processes, methodologies, and analytics approaches are followed and implemented according to the latest of the industry standards. The incumbent is responsible for ensuring activities for all global locations are in line with the overall UNGSC business targets and UN policies, rules and regulations.

Education:

  • Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in remote Sensing, Geospatial Information Systems (GIS), Geography, Geology, or related fields is required.
  • A first-level university degree (Bachelor’s degree) in combination with an additional two (2) years qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.

Experience:

Required:

  • A minimum of 2 years of experience in Remote Sensing/Imagery Analysis, GIS/Geospatial Analysis or related fields.
  • A minimum of 2 years of professional knowledge of ArcGIS, ERDAS Imagine, or comparable geospatial/image analysis software system/platform.
  • A minimum of 1 year of professional experience in imagery intelligence, preferably in a military or humanitarian context.

Desired: The following experience is optional. Candidates who do not have it are welcome to apply

  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Professional experience of digital cartography in a GIS environment.
  • Professional experience in statistical analysis using enterprise office software (e.g. “R”, MS Excel, MS Access).
  • Infographics and Graphics experience using enterprise graphics software (e.g. Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop).
  • Python scripting, preferably in ArcGIS environment.

Language:

  • For this job opening, fluency in English (both oral and written) is required.
  • Knowledge of another UN official language is desirable.
