The Position

We are currently seeking a qualified CAD Technicians for our growing team. This candidate will be responsible for the production of computer aided drawings from concept to final design for aerial and underground infrastructure projects. This individual will work closely with project coordinators, clients, design technicians, engineers and must possess excellent communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Drafts and designs new plant extension and as-builts utilizing AutoCAD
  • Produce various maps for permitting and design requirements
  • Provides drawings and details in both CAD based platforms and other media to determine and display design criteria
  • Imports AutoCAD, TIFF or other file formats and hard copy maps to create electronic base maps for road bases, MDU’s & strand routing
  • Designs fibre optic communications network and Cable TV system to client design specifications
  • Incorporates field and as-built changes from draft prints to the system database
  • Communicates with the Permit Department and Coordinators in order to gather and provide accurate information with regards to construction design
  • Determine method to design the plant changes with minimal impact to the system/customer and minimize related construction cost and ensures quality of design
  • Complete projects within prescribed time limits and within budget
  • Works closely with GIS, Survey Staff, Project Coordinators and other internal resources to execute projects within a timely fashion, while operating within budgetary requirements

Requirements

  • College Diploma in Engineering Technology or higher
  • 1+ years working experience in architectural, civil or electrical engineering
  • Telecommunication experience is a strong asset and preferred
  • Experience with SpatialNet or NetworkX would be an asset
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Good analytical skills and good judgment
  • Excellent spoken & written communication skills
  • Able to operate effectively in a fast-paced and highly energetic environment
  • Detail-orienteded and self-motivated a must
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize responsibilities, team player and be adaptable
  • Working experience with AutoCAD 2018 or later is mandatory.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience with outside plant (OSP) design of utilities (i.e. electric, gas, telecom, fiber optics, etc.)
  • Working knowledge of Aerial and Underground designs, drawings, and specifications
  • Knowledge of CSA, ESA and Regulation 22.04
  • Past experience within a telecommunication & LDC company or Engineering Consultant

The Location

Planview Utility Services has 3 offices – Markham, London and Ottawa. Our clients and their projects are based thought the province. There are up to seven (7) available positions with a preference for London and Markham. However remote candidates will be considered.
