Term
Full-time – 40 hrs/week
The Position
A GIS Technician will be required to use their skill sets to contribute and innovate on a variety of projects and programs. The responsibilities can vary from dynamic requirements and projects to consistent programs that require support and development.
This position is an office-based/remote position with little to no field work, but the possibility of out of office meetings. The team is a very skillful group and the requirements from everyone shifts according to need.
Responsibilities
- Reports to the GIS Services Manager
- Working with daily project loads and dynamic issues or changes to existing programs
- Support the development of new projects and programs through individual and team efforts
- Work with Management, Project Coordinators and peers to address project needs
- Experience with Network-based GIS (ArcFM, UNM) is considered an asset
- Practical use of FME is an asset
- Practical experience in ArcGIS Suite is expected
- Experience with ArcGIS Online is expected
- Executing daily processes and ensuring a high level of quality control
- Attending to the details of existing programs in order to complete regular maintenance and business processes
- Personal time management for maintaining workloads and reporting
- Projecting time requirements for all workloads, issues, and development items before and during the life cycle
- Ongoing innovation and creativity in solving problems or enhancing existing programs and processes
- Technical leadership on new items and solving problems as they come in
- Confidence and responsibility to be the key technical person for large and many different projects or programs
Requirements
- GIS post-grad certification or equivalent education and experience
- 2-3 years’ experience in the utility industry preferred
- 2+ years experience with ArcGIS Suite of Products is required
- Experience with SQL for querying and manipulating data is an asset
- Experience with Geodatabase
- Experience with FME is an asset
- Ability with Javascript or web programing is an asset
- Time management experience is an asset
- Able to work in a team atmosphere
- Excellent spoken & written communication skills
The Location
Working remotely is negotiable. Planview Utility Services Ltd has 3 offices – Markham, London and Ottawa. Our clients and their projects are based throughout the province. The home location for this position is in the Markham office.
